Science Phylums and Kosher Law of Mammals and Fish

        Nadene Goldfoot
Today,  Israel has by far the most productive dairy cows in the world,” writes Bloomberg.Israeli technology has made the country’s “Super Cows” world famous, as they produce much more milk than other countries’ cows, up to 10.5 tons a year, 10% more than in the U.S. and almost 50% more than in Germany, Bloomberg News reported in March 2014.
 Mammals

Science places Mammals in the subclass of Eutheria-Placental mammals.  "Placental mammals (subclass Eutheria) are advanced mammals whose young are born at a relatively advanced stage (more advanced than the young of other mammals, the monotremes and marsupials). Before birth, the young are nourished through a placenta. The placenta is a specialized embryonic organ that is attached the mother's uterus and delivers oxygen and nutrients to the young.
There are almost 4,000 known species of placental mammals. There are more rodents and bats than other types of placental mammals. Scientifically, placental mammals are called eutherians. "

Sheep are kosher, and of course, lamb
The order is Artiodactyla, which means:  even-toed ungulates:   a hoofed mammal of an order that includes the ruminants, camels, pigs, and hippopotamuses. Mammals of this group have either two or four toes on each foot.

The animals in this order are: antelope, deer, camels, pigs, cows, sheep and hippos.
Cows and sheep belong to the Family of Bovidae which includes antelope, cattle, gazelles, goats, sheep and their relatives.  We eat only the tamed ones such as cattle, goats and sheep.  We kill them a special way without pain.  The others in this family must be hunted, and that we do not consider as a kosher act because it can bring on fear, worry and pain to the animal.  .

Kosher law allows us to eat only from cows, goats and sheep.  Why?  They are different in that they have a split hoof.
The donkey does not have split hooves. . These are the front and rear hooves.

A camel's hoof is partially split, so we do not eat that animal, either.   The camel, for chewing the cud without its hooves being divided makes it not a kosher animal.  A camel is an even-toed ungulate within the genus Camelus, bearing distinctive fatty deposits known as "humps" on its back. Wikipedia

Another consideration that leaves out other orders, such as Carnivora in which cats and bears belong to, the Panda, Polar and Grizzly bears, and weasels, is the stomach.

It must have a ruminant stomach made up of 4 stomachs.  Here, the food travels from the mouth to the 1st stomach or rumen.  From the 2nd stomach  or reticulum food goes back to the mouth, and they chew their cud.  From the mouth this cud goes to the 3rd stomach or omasum.  Then it goes to the 4th stomach or abomasum.  None of these animals gives us meat for our table.

We do not eat from the pig:  The pig, for having cloven hooves without chewing the cud

We do not eat from the hare or rabbits:  The hare, for chewing the cud without having cloven hooves.
They are from the order of Lagomorpha, and are not kosher.

Unlike Leviticus 11:3-8, Deuteronomy 14:4-8 also explicitly names 10 animals considered ritually clean:
  • the ox
  • the sheep
  • the goat
  • the deer--but must be hunted, a no no.
  • the gazelle--must be hunted, a no no.
  •
Donkey-not kosher

Horse-not kosher
Poor people are tempted to eat horse meat because it's usually much cheaper than beef.  It belongs to the order of Perissodactyla along with the rhino and tapir, and is also not kosher.

So a kosher animal must have split hooves.  This is what is looked at.  They in turn should have a ruminant stomach.  Cows are perfect examples.

I'm so glad we don't eat camels, donkeys and horses.  They should be in a class by themselves that help people.  What would mankind have ever done without them?  Pigs are smelly but have a very high IQ, higher than the other animals.  Just keeping pigs in a pen is stinky business.  Today there is a very small breed used for pets such as the pot-bellied pigs.  China is creating a tiny pig to be used as pets, also.  .

Holstein Friesien Cow, a dairy cow, kosher laws include using a kosher animal for milk as well, so no camel milk.
In June of 2015, Prime Minister Netanyahu commented that ‘The Jewish cow’ is udderly superior to all other cows in the world." He was boasting about miraculous Israeli innovations came in an award speech he made last week (for the actor Michael Douglas), which was published by the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs:  Israel is making the best of their limited kosher animal with their high-tech dairies.  They use the Holstein Friesien Cows which are among the world's best performers

                                                   Fish

Fish must have 2 things:  fins and scales to be kosher for eating.
Some of the fish I'm familiar with are: Albacore and Tuna, mackerel, herrings, anchovies, bass, carp, caviar, channel bass, chinook and coho salmon, trout, cod, flounder, haddock.  My great aunt said to use as many as possible together when making gefilta fish, a recipe we use during Passover.  My mother used salmon in hers along with a whitefish.

There is more to being kosher than just picking the animal.  Steps in the killing and preparation follow the kosher laws as well.

Gideon back in the 12th century BCE from the tribe of Manasseh used a type of phylum to select men to fight with him against Midian in Judges 7:5.  G-d told him that everyone who laps from the water with his tongue as a dog laps, he was to put them apart from the others, and so too everyone who knelt on his knees to drink.  300 men  lapped with their hands to their mouth, and all the rest knelt on their knees to drink water.  The 300 were kept and the others were told to go home.

Our Former 2 State Solution in 920 BCE

Nadene Goldfoot
Israelites entering Egypt

In the days of Pharoahs and kings, there was an oppressed people who had been living in Egypt for 400 years as slaves after leaving their home in Canaan because of a drought.  They were freed by an Egyptian prince named Moses who had found out his birth parents had been Israelites, Amram and Jochebed of the tribe of Levi.  He led them back to Canaan and took it over under the guidance of the one and only G-d, and there they built their kingdom with kings Saul, David and Solomon (961-920 BCE), son of King David and the beautiful Bathsheba.

King Solomon and a wife
King Solomon was wise, known throughout the land for his wisdom. He is also the author of much of our Jewish thinking.   His reputation was far and wide, even reaching the ears in Africa of Queen Sheba who came and visited him.  He built the Temple to glorify G-d.  This was finished in the 11th year of Solomon's reign and ensured the central position of Jerusalem in his kingdom.  Solomon divided his land into 12 districts  for the 12 tribes of Jacob and constructed a series of fortresses, store-cities and chariot-cities such as Megiddo  and Hazor.  He then developed trade and commerce by building a harbor at Elat on the Red Sea and together with Hiram of Lebanon, sent a  great fleet of ships to the land of Opohir.

He received wealth from gifts from foreign monarchs such as Sheba.  Trade prospered with neighboring states.  They were producers of copper and iron with their large smelting furnaces in the southern areas. Of course, Solomon's royal house and court were built up with oriental magnificence and sumptuous building which housed the royal family and his harem, said to consist of 1,000 wives and concubines which he married to keep the peace between countries.

The one thing he did wrong that brought about a split in the country was demanding forced labor from his people.  This was so he could have his extensive building program, and he did this in order to save face and continue to be a strong country.  All the nations did it.  Egypt had its particular building programs going on of pryamids.  Others had gigantic temples to their gods.  Solomon's building projects were so vast that they impoverished the country, and there was no China to borrow money from.

People other than Israelites lived under his rule.  The Edomites and Arameans began to revolt.Even Israelites were malcontents.  In 933 BCE, Solomon died.  The tribe of Judah lived in the south and was the largest of the 12.  They decided to pull away from Israel and be their own state. It was Jeroboam, king of Israel (933-912 BCE)  who led the revolt against Rehoboam (933-917BCE) , King Solomon's son and successor who then became Judah's king . So Solomon's line stayed with the tribe of Judah.  Most of Benjamin joined Judah and they presumably absorbed the tribe of Simeon, which was isolated in the extreme South.  Judah had no access to the sea and had no great trade-route.  Their land was only no more than 1/3 of the area of what remained of Israel now.  Israel remained an important state, and Judah was a poor one.  However, it held Jerusalem, the center of their Jewish religion.

After they had divided, they fought each other.  It was not a peaceful divide, more like the American Civil War.  Israel existed for 210 years.  During that time they had 19 kings from 9 dynasties.  10 died from violence and 7 ruled for less than 2 years.  Before Israel was taken over by the Assyrians, they had reached their greatest power by conducting successful campaigns against neighboring states, had much luxury and at one time extended its presence as far as the gulf of Akaba.  On the other hand, Judah lasted from 933 BCE to 586 BCE, a total of 347 years.  By comparison, the USA, created in 1776, is now only 240 years old.

You can see that Judah was on the right and Israel went way over to the left, being less religious and more involved in international affairs.  Israel's strength had become sapped with being in a perpetual state of warfare with Damascus, Syria and both ultimately fell before the advancing power of Assyria.  Samaria had become Israel's capital and Sargon captured it in 721 BCE which was the end of Israel.

Seeing their chance, the Assyrians attacked in 721 BCE and led away the best of the men into captivity, never to be heard from again until lately when we find that it's most likely they were taken as far as today's Afghanistan and Pakistan and are the Pashtos, Muslims since at least 632 CE when Mohammad died and had his followers force people into their new religion.  Judah was not taken at this time.  Their last king was Hoshea (730-721 BCE)

King of Babylonia, Nebuchadnezzar (605-562 BCE) Conquered all lands from Euphrates to the Egyptian frontier, including Judah, captured Jerusalem and replaced king with his own pick-Zedekiah and exiled 8,000 of the local aristocracy to Babylon.
Finally, the Babylonians, who had taken over the Assyrians' holdings, came along in 597 BCE and again in 586 BCE with Nebuchadnezzar at the helm and take most of the population to their capital of Babylon as captives.

Divided, neither Israel nor Judah had been strong enough to hold off the strongest of empires of the period.

Benjamin Netanyahu, twice Israel's Prime Minister

Netanyahu, today's Prime Minister of Israel, knows our history.  His decisions are so that he keeps Israel together, never to be divided again.  Israel remains a free democracy, with opinions running from the left to the right, and today the right is in the power seat because they offer the most security, and they need it badly.  The whole world has turned against Israel for wanting to be back in its native land after 2,000 years of being homeless and the objects of persecutions.  This, surprisingly, had all been foretold by our ancient prophets.  So it's something Israelis are living with, knowing they are doing their best to be a good people and to help the world that is against them.

Bernie Sanders' Actions About Israel and Voting Record

Nadene Goldfoot

Bernie Sanders is a typical American Jew in that he is not a particularly religious.one.  His father immigrated from Poland in 1921 when the USA was about to close its doors on Jewish immigrants from Europe.  Somehow this Brooklyn-born son has picked up socialist values, as that is what he is touting though running on the Democratic ticket, though he is an Independent Senator.    He has been milk toast in regards to Israel as a senator, especially during the past 2 years.  .

Campaigning Bernie "Bernard" Sanders

Up to 2014, he has become highly critical of Israel.  Before that, he says he spent a few months working on a kibbutz in Israel in the 60's  but hasn't named it and no one could  find any records.  Finally, it has been discovered in the Haaretz Archives that he had been on Sha'ar Ha'amakeim in Northern Israel as a guest of the Hashomer Hatzair Youth Movement.   Located near Kiryat Tiv'on, it falls under the jurisdiction of Zevulun Regional Council.   In 2006, it had a population of 548. The Sha'ar HaAmakim kibbutz was founded in 1935 by immigrants from Romania and Yugoslavia. Its name was derived from the nearby confluence of the Jezreel and Zevulun valleys . Most of the kibbutz members work in the Chromogen solar water heater factory, whilst the remainder work in agriculture. No doubt volunteers such as Bernie was in agriculture and cows.   An article written before he became senator said that "after spending time on the kibbutz, he seems to have lost his connection to Israel, Zionism and Judaism, but fails to offer any further details, instead asking the then-hopeful senator why he chose to settle in Vermont."

He said as a senator that the situation between Israel and the Palestinians has gone on for 60 years and is depressing and a difficult issue.

My opinion is that he did not understand the situation that developed in 2014 in Israel's Operation Protective Edge  at all which caused his change of attitude towards Israel.  He did not understand what had been going on and why only 72 Israelis had died when 2,100 Palestinians died in the fight, and many of these were civilians, he thought.  He did not really look into why Israel had been blamed for bombing some UN facilities but just gave it all a blanket negative thumbs down as shown in his acts

As Wikipedia wrote about it,  following the IDF Operation Defensive Edge when  Hamas started rocket attacks, targeting Israeli cities and infrastructure, and resulted  in seven weeks of Israeli operations. The Israeli strikes, the Palestinian rocket attacks and the ground fighting resulted in the death of about 2,100  Gazan Arabs and 72 Israeli IDF.    Israel, as it always does, gave the Palestinians plenty of warning to stop their attacks, and to get out of the way when they were forced to retaliate, but this is something that the Palestinian leaders plan on, having a high death rate in order to cause Israel to be in a bad light.  They really don't care a hoot about the lives of their own people as long as they get their wanted results.  Did Bernie understand all this?  It doesn't look like he bothered to find out from his reaction.

Democratic Ticket-Bernie and Hillary, running neck to neck in Iowa
Because of this, he has not signed any AIPAC backed letters about Israel who try to explain issues.  "Sanders was one of 21 of 100 U.S. senators not to sign on as a co-sponsor to Senate Resolution 498, which expressed support for Israel “as it defends itself against unprovoked rocket attack from Hamas.”

He was not one of the Senators to attend Prime Minister Netanyahu's speech in February 2015 that he had made to the joint session of Congress as to why the Iran deal about nuclear energy was a bad one.  This is what we call a shunda (a sad state of affairs).  He is one of the few Jewish senators and should have bothered to investigate Israel's position better.  In fact, " when Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced that he would address Congress in March warning lawmakers on Iran’s nuclear program, Sanders was the first senator to boycott the speech because Netanyahu's speech was  “arranged without consultation with the White House.”

Sander's talking points in campaigning for President revolves around big money against the little man-Socialistic values and the state of the USA economy.  He wants much to be free for people, some of which are good ideas, such as Health.  He wants colleges and universities to also be free, probably run by the government.  In other words, he's all for bigger government.  It's too bad he has never investigated how teeny Israel manages their socialistic values of health along with being the leaders of start up businesses. Instead he only must have learned about how to milk a cow while on the kibbutz.   They are definitely a democratic country.  Even their health plans are varied and include insurance plans using the best of doctors, and free health care for those who need it.

He's all for a 2-State Solution for the 2 people but doesn't have any idea how to bring about peace.  Right now, even the left in Israel are not for this at this time.  They're busy fighting off Palestinians who are stabbing people or ramming them with their autos.  The Palestinians are not for peace with Israelis.  They haven't been since 1948, and they've been offered everything imaginable.  The fear is that no one wants a one state solution, either, as Israel must keep the 80%-20% balance in favor of Israel.  It's the only Jewish state in the world.  Muslims have 48 Muslim majority states without a Palestine already.

He thinks Obama did a great job with the Iran deal and so goes along with much of the Democrat's thinking.

Since 1991, we have had 13 Jewish Senators.  11 are Democrats, Sanders is the one Independent, and there is one Republican.  Altogether since 1845, we have had only 35 Jewish Senators.  After all, we Jews are only 2% of the USA population.  24 have been Democrats,  8 Republicans, and Joe Lieberman in 1989 was a Democrat-Independent.  One was even a Whig in 1853.

With the Arabs, he has high ratings of 2+.  Here's the reason why.

Rated +2 by American Arab Institute, indicating pro-Arab pro-Palestine voting record.

Sanders scores +2 by AAI on Arab-Israeli issues  Out of 10 issues, he voted yes for 5 of them in favor of the Arabs and 3 of them a no, which were in favor of Israel.   One evidently he skipped over.    See below which ones.
The Arab American Institute has compiled a Scorecard to catalogue the voting record of the 112th Congress (ran from January 3, 2011 until January 3, 2013) on issues of importance to the Arab American community. Though not comprehensive, we have attempted to provide a snapshot of legislation concerning many of the primary issues concerning Arab Americans. For the Senate, we have included 10 items: two bills on the Arab Spring, three on Palestine, one on Lebanon, one regarding civil liberties, and two for immigration reform.

On one scorecard Bernie had + on #6 about Lebanon and #10 on Immigration. On another as follows:
  1. S. Res. 44: (+) calls on former President Hosni Mubarak to immediately begin a peaceful transition to a democratic political system
  2. S. Res. 109: (+) honoring and supporting women in North Africa and the Middle East
  3. 2011, S. Res. 138: (-) calling on the United Nations to rescind (remove) the Goldstone report, formally known as the UN Fact Finding Mission on the Gaza Conflict, which accused the Israeli government of targeting Palestinian civilians.  He voted not to remove this.  Rubio and Levin were co-sponsors and voted for it.
  4. May 2011, S. Res. 185: (-) reaffirming the commitment of the US to a negotiated settlement of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and calling for a US veto of any UN resolution on Palestinian statehood without a settlement. Rubio and Wyden were 2 of 90 co-sponsors 45 Republicans, 44 Democrats, but not Sanders.
  5. June 9, 2011, S. Con. Res. 23: (-) supporting Israel in maintaining defensible borders, and against Israel returning to the armistice lines that existed on June 4, 1967 by Orrin Hatch, States that: (1) it is U.S. policy to support Israel in maintaining secure, recognized, and defensible borders; and (2) it is contrary to U.S. policy and our national security to have Israel's borders return to the armistice lines that existed on June 4, 1967. Referred to foreign relations committee.
  6. S. 558: (+) the Cluster Munitions Civilian Protection Act, to limit the use of cluster munitions in areas normally inhabited by civilians.
  7. S. 1125: (+) greater judicial review of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA), and greater protections to individuals being monitored or gag-ordered by the FBI.
  8. S.1038, the PATRIOT Sunsets Extension Act, in opposition of PATRIOT Act extension.
  9. S. 723: (-) The Birthright Citizenship Act, limiting citizenship for millions of undocumented immigrants born in the US.
  10. S. 952: (+) the DREAM Act, allowing undocumented minors to become US citizens, provided they meet certain conditions, including good moral character.
Update: 2/17/16  Bernie finally realizes he is Jewish and opens up on Jewish Jewish pride. In answering a student, he said "“Obviously, being Jewish is very, very important to me,” Sanders said. “I am very proud of my heritage. And what comes to my mind so strongly as a kid growing up in Brooklyn and seeing people with numbers on their wrists — you probably have not seen that — but those were the people who came out of the concentration camps. And knowing that, my — a good part of my father’s family was killed by the Nazis. And that lesson that I learned as a very young person is politics is a serious business. And when you have a lunatic like Hitler gaining power — 50 million people died in World War 2. So I am very, very proud to be Jewish and I’m proud of my heritage.”

SodaStream In the BDS Battle That USA and EU Are Part Of Against Israel

Nadene Goldfoot
SodaStream Plant in Judea-Samaria employed Arabs to manufacture this contained that allows people to make their own carbonated beverages in their homes, but has now moved mostly due to the  Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions movement, which seeks to hurt Israel’s economy over its policies toward the Palestinians, a people who do the bidding of Arab leaders to destroy Israel.

BDS is tightening the noose around Israel's neck with the EU's demands that  goods coming from Israeli companies in Judea and Samaria (West Bank) and Gaza to not be labeled as having been produced in Israel.

The President of the USA, Barak Hussein Obama, followed the leaders and put out a memorandum from the Department of Homeland Security's Customs and Border Protection Bureau that directs the US "trade community" and government partner agencies to explicitly label Israeli-made goods that have been produced in Judea-Samaria.  They evidently are re-labeling anything coming into the United States.  This action came days after a State Department spokesman defended the European Union's impostion of similar labels on Israeli-made goods.

This goes along with the BDS movement against Israel.  The Washington Free Beacon's Adam Kredo broke the story of this intrigue against Israel.  The directive from the Democrat administration said that it is NOT ACCEPTABLE to label goods coming from Israeli companies located in Judea, Samaria and Gaza as having been produced in Israel.  Then the USA is ignoring the fact that Israel won the 1967 Six Day War where all the neighboring Arab states attacked Israel and Israel won, gaining Judea-Samaria back from Jordan's illegal holdings in the first place!  Also Gaza fell into their hands from Egypt losing their fight against Israel in the same move.  To Israel, the land is again theirs.  Just what does the USA and the EU think would have happened to Israel had they NOT won?  Now, I wonder just who were they backing?

One man in our senate is fighting this.  Senator Tom Cotton introduced S.2474, a bill that would override the customs bureau's January 23 guidance by authorizing Israeli businesses to use any of an array of labeling options---including, "MADE IN ISRAEL."

Back in October 6 to 25, 1973, Israel was involved in the Yom Kippur War when Arab nations attacked on the most holy day of the Jews, Yom Kippur.  It's also the year the staff of the Division of Information, Ministry for Foreign Affairs, Jerusalem, put out their booklet of Facts About Israel.  In this booklet,  are the facts taken about manufacturing in Judaea and Samaria.  At that time, it consisted mainly of the small crafts workshop type, employing 3 or 4 workers.  The foodstuffs industry accounts for about 2/3 of sales and employs 1/4 of all the industrial workers.  1967 was the important Six Day War where the odds that Israel would win was nil, and they won! It's when Judea, Samaria and Gaza came into Israeli hands.   Between 1968 and 1970/71, industrial sales, excluding olive oil, went up from 61 million shekels to 95 million shekels, and sales of oil went up from 17 million to 35 million shekels.

The number of factory workers rose from 13,000 in 1968 to 16,000-18% of all regional employed---in 1971.  A certain amount of work is subcontracted by Israeli producers to local enterprises, and many local plants are entering into partnership with Israeli enterprises, particularly in ready-made clothing and carpentry.

The Military Government encourages the progress and enlargement of plants and makes long-term, low-interest advances to that end.

Industrial development lags in the Gaza Strip and North Sinai.  There are no large or modern factories there.  The clothing branch has some 360 enterprises and can be credited with 17% of industrial sales, employ8ng 22% of all industrial workers.

In Gaza, expansion is evident in the clothing, footwear, wood and furniture branches.  In 1968/69, industrial sales rose from 11 million shekels to 13 million, and the number of workers from 5,400 to 6,000 which is 14% of all regional employment.  Subcontracting for Israeli manufacturers plays an important role in this expansion.

An industrial zone is going up at the northern point of the Gaza Strip, and premises in it will be leased to local and Israeli enterprises.

Of course, we all know that Gaza produced nothing of late other than bombs to use on Israel and tunnels in which to bring in goods not allowed because they can be used to make bombs.   Gazans were getting rich on controlling these tunnels.  Egypt has been helpful in helping to destroy them from their end.  Gaza has gone to Hamas rule since June 2007, which is a terrorist group.

Sodastream set up a factory in Judea-Samaria and closed it as of October 29, 2014.  This was an Israeli carbonated soda drink company  that employed Arabs.  Their sales fell 9%..  "Hollywood actress Scarlett Johansson, said it would relocate the factory by the end of 2015.  She was their representative. SodaStream said that the closure of its largest plant would save $9 million (seven million euros) in production costs.

Its turnover was put at $125.9 million in the third quarter, down 9% from 2013.
"We are launching a comprehensive growth plan to put the firm back on track," Birnbaum said.
SodaStream employs more than 2,000 people at more than 20 sites in Australia, China, Germany and South Africa, as well as in Israel.

New factory for SodaStream in Rahat, Israel in the Negev.  They said they would take in 1,000 Syrian refugees and they could work here.
In 2012, they said they were building a new factory in the Negev of southern Israel.  No doubt the BDS affected their decision.  This ends employment for the Arabs in Judea-Samaria.  Let Israel try to do a good thing for the Arabs and people who have interfered with life in Israel  such as BDS end it all.

Scarlett Johanssen was not sorry about being SodaStream's ambassador.  She said nothing was wrong with Israel having a factory there employing Arabs.  The terrible thing is that BDS has caused the factory to shut down and now this has left all the workers destitute.  There is no other job for them.

Aramaic Found in Galilee Cemetery: In competition with Hebrew

Nadene Goldfoot
Above includes Targum which is the Aramaic translation of the Bible.  The Talmud concludes from Nehemiah 8:8 that the custom of adding an Aramaic translation to the public reading of the bible goes back to Ezra, well-established custom in the 2nd Temple Period.  All Targums are written in a somewhat artificial Aramaic, half-way between biblical Aramaic and the spoken language of Judah.

Aramaic

The Kinneret Institute for Galilean Archaeology has found in a cemetery in the Galilee some inscriptions both in Greek and Aramaic in the old capital city of Zippori.  Zippori was the 1st capital of the Galilee from the time of the Hasmonean dynasty until the creation of the city of Tiberias in the 1st century CE.  Zippori continued to be important later.  Christians get excited over Aramaic and the Galilee because Jesus ministered around the Sea of Galilee in Capernaum most of his time. He spoke in Aramaic.""Capernaum was a fishing village in the time of the Hasmoneans, located on the northern shore of the Sea of Galilee. It had a population of about 1,500. Archaeological excavations have revealed two ancient synagogues built one over the other.

This find was in the city of Zippori (Sepphoris), described by the first century CE Jewish historian, Josephus Flavius, as "the ornament of all Galilee," is located on a hill in the Lower Galilee, midway between the Mediterranean and Lake Kinneret (Sea of Galilee), with abundant spring water and a fertile valley around it.
Zippori is mentioned in many Jewish sources of the first centuries of the common era. Founded in the Hellenistic era, it was named the administrative capital of Galilee by Gabinius, the Roman governor, in the mid-first century BCE. The city did not join the revolt against Rome in 66 CE; it opened its gates to the legions of the Roman Emperor Vespasian and was thus saved. On coins minted in Zippori at that time, the city is named Eirenopolis, "city of peace." Later, its name was changed to Diocaesarea in honor of Zeus and the emperor."  Archaeologist found many beautiful mosaics in Tzippori (another spelling)  that people used to say it might have been a regional catalogue store for the ornate floors that the Romans loved!.
Talmud with section of Mishnah in center surrounded by commentaries from illustrious scholars

In Jewish tradition, it is best known as the hometown of Rabbi Yehuda Hanasi (Rabbi Judah Ha-Nasi) (135-220 CE) son and successor of Rabbi Simeon ben Gamaliel II.  He was known as "our holy teacher".   who codified the Mishnah (the first book of the Talmud) here in the late second century CE. Visitors feel close to Jewish history and practice in Tzipori’s synagogue, with its magnificent fifth-century mosaic whose motifs symbolize longed-for redemption. The MIshnah is the legal codification containing the core of the Oral Law.  Yehuda arranged it all logically. Most of his life was spent in the Galilee, first at Bet Shearim and then at Sepphoris.  His household spoke pure Hebrew and gave the language new life.  He was buried in the family tomb at Bet Shearim, which has been excavated. "Judah was supposedly of the royal line of King David, hence, also  the title "Prince."  Nasi was a title of being head of the Sanhedrin (the ruling Jewish Council.). "

Four words have been decoded in Zippori, an ancient capital of the Galilee in Israel.  One word is Greek for Jose.  No, the Spaniards weren't in the Galilee 2,000 years ago.  It was actually a common Jewish  name ."The  name Jose (as translated by the Christian website)  is probably an truncated form of the name Ιωσης (Joses), which in turn comes from the Hebrew name Joseph (in Hebrew: יוסף, and transliterated into Greek: Ιωσηφ), but many people insist it's a form of the name Ιησους (Jesus), which in turn comes from the Hebrew name Joshua (in Hebrew: יהושע, and transliterated into Greek: Ιησους), which is obviously a completely different name."   The other 3 words were Aramaic for:
1. The Tiberian
2. Forever
3. rabbi
These were words in a cemetery, like what might be found on a headstone.  The Tiberian had to be the man who was buried and had come from the city of Tiberias.  Tiberias was founded in about 18 CE by Herod Antipas and named in honor of the Roman emperor Tiberius. who reigned from 14 to 37 CE.  It was in 19 CE that he expelled the Jews from Rome on account of a fraud perpetrated on a Roman matron sympathetic to Judaism.  4,000 young Jews were sent to Sardinia to fight the brigands.  Israel and Judah were harshly administered under his rule, during which the crucifixion of Jesus happened.

Most likely deceased in the cemetery  was a rabbi, but scholars are unsure precisely what this meant at the time of its inscription. Forever meant that the deceased's burial place will always belong to him.   This is what Motti Aviam of the Kinneret Institute has said about the find.

"The Aramaic script was widely adopted for other languages and is ancestral to both the Arabic and modern Hebrew alphabets. Accordingly, Jesus Christ, the central figure of Christianity, spoke the Aramaic dialect during his public ministry.  There is sort of a long running battle between the Pope and Netanyahu about what language was used in the 1st century CE in Judah;  Aramaic or Hebrew.  Hebrew was still spoken, but Aramaic was also used.  It was a North-Semitic language known by some as Chaldaic, and still is spoken by a few.

Aramaic is closer to Hebrew than the other Semitic languages and has influenced Hebrew considerably.  It came on the scene as an international language like English has been.  Commerce from the period of the late Assyrian and Persian kingdoms of the 6th century BCE was the reason it was used as evidenced by the many inscriptions that have been found in Asia Minor, Egypt, India and in other places where it was never native.  Aramaic was for many centuries the Palestinian vernacular, and biblical readings were translated into Aramaic in the synagogues for the benefit of  congregants who did not understand Hebrew, as we find English today.  It was the literary tongue and was the language of  the Zohar and of later kabbalistic poetry.

Ancient Aramaic was used on inscriptions of the 1st millennium BCE and in the Elephantine papyri and used at times in the Bible such as Daniel .2::4-7:28:   Ezra 4:8-6:18:  7:12-26:  Jeremiah. 10:11.

Then Western Aramaic was the language of the Palestinian Talmud, the aggadic Midrashim, Targum Jonathan, and the Samaritan translation of the Pentateuch.

Eastern Aramaic includes Syriac and the Aramaic of the Babylonian Talmud.

New Aramaic is still spoken by the Nestorian Christians in the Kurdish districts of Syria, Iraq, Turkey, Persia (Iran) and Russia and also by Jews who have settled in Israel from these regions.

The city of Zippori must have been named for Zipporah, wife of Moses and daughter of Jethro, the priest of Midian.  When Zipporah traveled to Egypt with Moses, she saved her son's life by circumcising him as told in Exodus 4:24-6.  Later, she returned to her father with her 2 sons, Gershom and Eliezer.  Then she rejoined Moses at Mount Sinai, told in Exodus 18:1.

As for the ancient city of Zippori, it had many ritual baths discovered in the excavation.  Roman culture was also evident in the findings such as the design of the town with paved streets, colonnaded main roads, theater and bathhouses.  There were many inscriptions found in the cemeteries which attests to the strong Jewish presence and the city's social elite in this late Roman period.

An interesting point about Hebrew is that it was being used in Israel before the Israelite conquest. This could be documented by the fact that Abraham of the 2nd  millennium BCE had entered Canaan with his wife, Sarah and others, and they most likely spoke Hebrew. They lived there until the drought that drove their family,  now with Jacob as the head of 70 into Egypt.   It was one of the Semitic languages used, the others being Moabite and Phoenician, which were all part of the Canaanite branch of Semitic languages.  The 1st Hebrew spoken was then a pre-exilic Biblical Hebrew.  After the exile, Biblical Hebrew continued to be used for over 500 years, but started to falter because of the influence of Aramaic when from 539 BCE to 331BCE was the language of officialdom  and was being spoken by many Jews.  The emergence of mishnaic Hebrew as a new colloquial language from about 200 BCE  caused the uncertainty in Hebrew usage also.  Mishnaic Hebrew was not from biblical Hebrew but probably from some pre-exilic colloquial dialect and had become a literary language through the tannaim in the 1st century CE.  It's spoken use then declined after the wars of 66 to 70 CE and again in 132-135 when Aluf Bar Kokhba made his stand against the Romans.  It was a more sober, simple and brief language than biblical Hebrew and better suited for precise expression.

Prayers during the Tannaitic Period combined Biblical Hebrew vocabulary with Mishnaic Hebrew grammar.  Almost all later styles mixed the 2 dialects.  After 200, even the Jews of Judah and Israel  almost stopped using Hebrew and wrote in Aramaic and Greek.  In about 500, a literary revival began which led to the use of Hebrew again in its written form throughout the Middle Ages.

Today Ashkenazim speak Hebrew differently from the Sephardim and Mizrahim.  Ashkenazis disregard nearly all the gutturals and all the emphatics of Hebrew.  For instance, a kametz is pronounced as an a by the Sephardi but as an o by the Ashkenazi and o by the Yemenite.  A Holam is prounounced as an o by the Sephardi but as an au, oi, etc by Ashkenazi and the Yemenite prounce it as an e or ei.   The Israel pronunciation has the vowel sounds of the Sephardi Hebrew but the consonants of the Ashkenazim except for tav.  The fact is that the Yemenite pronunciation of Hebrew has continued the Babylonian tradition whereas the Ashkenazi and Sephardi pronunciations reflect the Tiberian and  Palestinian pronunciation respectively.   Jews were taken to Babylonia in 597 and 586 BCE by Nebuchadnezzar as slaves, so it's a much older form of Hebrew.

UN Secretary Lacks Moral Compass: Gives Green Light to Terrorism

Nadene Goldfoot
Ban Ki-moon The Secretary-General was born in the Republic of Korea on 13 June 1944. He received a bachelor's degree in international relations from Seoul National University in 1970.  In 1985, he earned a master's degree in public administration from the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University.

Eli E. Hertz

How can Secretary General of the United Nations, Ban Ki-moon, possibly say that terrorism and incitement is human nature and we see it in reaction to occupation!

This statement is what Eli E. Hertz has now found to be Moon's philosophy. Mr. Hertz "is the president of Myths and Facts, an organization devoted to research and publication of information regarding US interests in the world and particularly in the Middle East. Mr. Hertz served as Chairman of the Committee for Accuracy in Middle East Reporting."  Evidently Moon cannot stand up to pressure from those countries against Israel's existence.  One needs to have a strong moral compass to combat these countries' ideas of what morality is.  They do not share mine.   Terrorism is not human nature in all people, especially if you have been brought up under Jewish and Christian values.

The UN charter does not go along with this brain-washed idea of his.  It states in the Resolution 1377 of the UN Security Council that it "reaffirms its unequivocal condemnation of all acts, methods and practices of terrorism as criminal and unjustifiable, REGARDLESS OF THEIR MOTIVATION, in all their forms and manifestations, wherever and by whomever committed.

Thomas L. Friedman, author of "From Beirut to Jerusalem" and many others
Even Thomas L. Friedman, a Leftist Democratic thinker if ever there was one, stated back in 2002 in the April 1st New York Times, that "Palestinians are not desperate from Israeli occupation.  Other people in the world are desperate, but they don't go around with dynamite strapped to their body.  PALESTINIANS HAVE ADOPTED SUICIDE BOMBING AS A STRATEGIC CHOICE, NOT OUT OF DESPERATION.   "Thomas Loren Friedman is an American journalist, columnist and author. He has won the Pulitzer Prize three times and currently writes a weekly column for The New York Times."  "Professor Noam Chomsky  accused Friedman of endorsing and encouraging terrorism by Israeli forces.   That shows how off-beat Chomsky is, to say that of a critic of Israel's Prime Minister Netanyahu  in many areas.  At least Friedman understands the position Israel finds itself in to exist.  Israel does not practice terrorism.

Israel's administrated areas in 1980 were not typical occupied areas.  Until a peace settlement comes about with the Arabs who call themselves "Palestinians", as they used to be known as Syrian Arabs,  which will determine the political future of the areas, Israel's policy tries to achieve 4 objectives:
1. keep conditions of security for Israelis and Arabs alike.
2. All shall live normal lives without losing contact with Arabs in other countries.
3. Bring about, make possible rapid economic development
4. Encourage co-existence and cooperation between Arabs and Israelis.

This was policy and it was deterred by the Arabs themselves, as they always manage to do so with their leadership.  They have had 2 intefadas, sort of like extreme terrorism/war. Their doctrine is not to accept Israel but to destroy it.  Netanyahu and the government had been for a 2 state solution but the Arabs are not.  Right now with such terroristic acts going on from the Arabs, one cannot justify thinking about a 2 state solution.  It is not logical.  The Arabs are not meeting the goals set to create and accept a new state.  It would be like allowing IS to move in, and that is most likely what would happen.  They are already moving on Gaza.

Look, it took Jews 2,000 years to finally get it together to create Israel again after being forced out by the Romans who had been occupying their nation  and having Jerusalem burned down along with the 2nd Temple in 70 CE.  Finally, May 14, 1948 it came about legally and was accepted into the family of nations by the UN.  Is the UN now trying to end this nation of almost 68 years of age because the Muslim Arabs can't abide the one and only Jewish state here again when they were not even viable states in the past?  Most of the nay-saying neighbors just became states themselves shortly before Israel did except Egypt and Syria.  The Palestinian Arabs were from surrounding lands that came in because they were after jobs with the Jews who were building in Palestine.  No one really was living in Palestine except nomadic Bedouins on their camels and Jews who had never left from 70 CE and those that had been joining them through the ages with the biggest influx coming during the 1880's onward.

Actually, the UN has been going down the tube since the mid-1970s when an Arab-Soviet 3rd World bloc joined to form what amounted to a pro-PLO lobby at the UN, and so very true in the General Assembly where these countries--nearly all dictatorships or autocracies--frequently voted together to pass resolutions attacking Israel and supporting the PLO.  They had the audacity in 1974 to pick Yasir Arafat to address it, and he did with a holster attached to his hip.

Moon uttered this comment only 6 days ago on Tuesday, January 26, 2016 and one of the first to know of it was PM Netanyahu who was furious!  He said that Moon is stoking Palestinian terrorism.

All civilization is threatened by Ban Ki-moon's going along with such a philosophy.  If hijacking and airplane bombing and terrorism such as coming from the terrorists in Gaza and Judea-Samaria, then ISIS terrorism will be  acceptable and  it will be copied and lead to a bomber strapped with a nuclear device threatening all the nations.  The whole world must accept Resolution 1377 unequivocally.  A terrorist is just that;  a terrorist.

France has been hit by terrorism.  Terrorism is happening already in the USA.  The worst of it has been going on in Jerusalem where Arabs are stabbing Jews as they walk by, or ramming crowds of Jews with their automobiles. IS has destroyed Syria and Iraq and is creating their own caliphate.  All countries are on terror alert.  Since December 224, 2015, Israelis have had 100 days of such terrorism going on.   The green light for such behavior has been turned on by Ban Ki-moon.

Update: 2/4/16  http://www.aish.com/jw/me/Ban-Ki-Moon-Gets-it-Wrong-Again.html?s=mm  Excellent article, a must read.  Points out that occupation is not the reason for violence but the fact that Jews live on the land.
"In the infamous Arab pogrom in Hebron in 1929 there was no occupation. In 1948, when seven Arab nations vowed to slay every Jew and conquer every last inch of territory allotted to Israel by the United Nations, there was no occupation. In 1967, Israel did not occupy the West Bank or Judea and Samaria and the Arabs were bent on Israel’s destruction. And when Israel decided to voluntarily cede to Gaza to the Palestinians as a trial first step towards peace, we all know what happened – because of the imaginary and nonexistent “occupation”.
