Hillary Clinton's Position on Israel

     Nadene Goldfoot

Huma Abedin, Hillary's right hand lady and Hillary Clinton.
Hillary has said she's like a daughter to her.  Huma's parents have
ties with the Muslim Brotherhood of which were in favor with Obama
on his trip to Egypt after taking office.

Hillary Diane Clinton nee Rodham,  born October 26, 1947 in Chicago, Illinois, where Obama lived after being in Hawaii,  was our Secretary of State who is now running for President.  She was the former First Lady of the USA when her husband, William "Bill" Jefferson Clinton, was President and lived in the White House from 1993 to 2001, when in his 2nd term, her husband was found to have disgraced himself with the Lewinsky Scandal.   Hillary, herself a lawyer,  at the time was an injured party in the affair.  Now they have a good marriage.  After this period, "from
2001 to 2009, she served as a United States Senator from New York."    New York has the largest Jewish population, and she learned to tread carefully with Jewish or Israeli comments  in order garnish votes for Senator.

Regarding the Arab-Israeli conflict, Clinton has stated that she is "an emphatic, unwavering supporter of Israel's safety and security.

On November 13, 2005, Clinton said that she supports the creation of the West Bank barrier, stating: "This is not against the Palestinian people. This is against the terrorists. The Palestinian people have to help to prevent terrorism. They have to change the attitudes about terrorism." She has also requested that Palestinian leaders "change all textbooks in all grades" from the current ones, which are "hate-filled, violent and radical." This was excellent!  I've been saying this over and over.  No other presidential hopeful has.

"On July 18, 2006, Clinton spoke at a pro-Israel rally in New York in front of the United Nations. She supported Israel's efforts in the 2006 Israel-Lebanon conflict: "We are here to show solidarity and support for Israel. We will stand with Israel, because Israel is standing for American values as well as Israeli ones."  Excellent!

As a senator and throughout her career, Clinton had supported a law that requires identifying Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.  In September 2011, as Secretary of State, she filed a brief with the US Supreme Court opposing "any American action, even symbolically, toward recognizing Jerusalem as the capital of Israel" because of the influence it might have on the Israeli-Palestinian peace process.  Of course, this goes against Israel's needs and wishes.  She opposed Jerusalem being recognized as Israel's capital!  This went against what she had felt and said as a senator!  Again, what a politician says and what they do differ too often.

During an interview while the 2014 Israel–Gaza conflict was ongoing, Clinton said that Hamas had intentionally provoked Israel by firing rockets into that country. In regard to whether Israel's response against Hamas had been proportionate, she said, "I'm not a military planner, but Hamas puts its missiles – its rockets – in civilian areas. Part of it is that Gaza's pretty small and it's very densely populated. They put their command and control of Hamas military leaders in those civilian areas. Israel, I know, has sent warnings and tried to get people to move, but in any kind of conflict there are going to be civilian casualties, and we need to try to get to a cease-fire as soon as possible."

All this, I must admit, is a surprise to me in that Hillary has stood up for Israel.  Has she been butting horns with Obama?  These facts don't seem to be matters like Obama's feelings about  Israel. He was demanding that Israel go back to the 67 lines that weren't even boundary lines which was an impossible death wish for Israel.

Having  been First Lady, she feels she has the experience to be President.
She graduated from Wellesley College in 1969.  Wellesley has been very anti-Semitic and even fired the staff of Hillel, a Jewish group on campus recently.  It was started in 1875 as a religious college " to
educate young women “for the glory of God and the service of the Lord Jesus Christ.”  It designed its admission policy to cultivate and perpetuate a white Anglo-Saxon Protestant elite.
Then she graduated Yale Law School which she attended from 1969 to 1973.  Hillary  ran unsuccessfuly for President in 2008 against Obama.  Because of this, perhaps, he appointed her Secretary of State.  At the time, she did very badly in her campaign planning, as Mark Halperin showed in his book about the 2008 campaigns, Game Change.

Former Senator and Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton, has supported the US invasion of Iraq which turns out to have been a violation of the UN Charter.  She has shown hostility toward the International Criminal Court.  She supported international recognition of Morocco's illegal annexation of occupied Western Sahara and has attacked the UN of many of its key agencies.  In my view, these were all pretty good points.  I've been against the UN for many years because of how they have treated Israel.  I cheered when we went into Iraq after 9/11 which I'm sure many Americans did.

    Hillary speaking in Jerusalem, 2012
Hillary has become known as one of the most right-wing Democrats when discussing the Israel-Palestine issues perhaps to Democrats, but not to people who support Israel.  She seems to be a reflection of Obama's biases against Israel.  We have been most disappointed with Obama's decisions,  that she has concurred with.   During one of Clinton's many visits to Qatar, Hillary befriended  the head of Qatar who houses an Egyptian religious leader,  Qaradawi.  This religious leader teaches Muslims all over the world through his TV program to kill Jews.  This has been most distressing to me.  Doesn't she realize what they back?

An ex-US ambassador to Israel, Thomas Pickering,  asked her in 2011 to support Palestinian protests  which was found in an email to a senior advisor forwarding his son's anti-Zionist articles of which abound on the internet.  Is this what she is depending on in garnering information about Israel?  It's what I fear happening to many of our leaders in Washington DC.  Without an excellent background in not only current events and past historical facts about the Middle East, our leaders have nothing really to to rely on to make decisions on their own.

Hillary is known to have broken rules. She has kept a private email address for receiving official government business while Secretary of State from 2009 to 2013.  Now, the State Department has looked at 40,000 pages  and has found this among others.

By July 2015, it was known more through these emails of her connection to Qatar. "Altogether, on Tuesday the State Department released over 1,900 of Clinton’s emails (3,000 pages). Within this bulk of information, there are 19 emails that have to do with Clinton/ Mozah getting acquainted with each other. Sheikha Mozah was unable to meet with Clinton on suggested dates in June 2009 “due to prior commitments” and proposed to meet “immediately after Ramadan/Eid week of September 27, 2009.”

Another email found from 2010 was a suggestion from Anne-Marie Slaughter, Hillary's former director of policy planning,  that Hillary create a "Pledge for Palestine" campaign to give support to a Palestinian charity to encourage Palestinians to stay at the negotiating table.  Regardless of this, they didn't, but it does show a preference for the Palestinians over Israel.  Now, of course, the situation has become untenable, and Israel has given up trying due to current events happening in Israel that show the Palestinian unwillingness for becoming peaceful neighbors.

I have not found Hillary's statements about her position on Israel like I have with a few other candidates.  Wikipedia did the best job that I have found.  The question is, how much is for show to gain votes and how much is for real in how she really feels about Israel.  Her daughter has married a Jewish man and has children, now.  So has Trump's daughter. These 2 young mothers are friends.   How much will either candidate  view Israel in a more positive light because of this?  Will it shape their thinking at all about Israel?  One can not guess.  How much has Hillary been affected by Obama and Huma, who I have wary feeling that doesn't view Israel in a positive or fair light?

It all depends on whether you believe in the Democratic party of today or the Republican.  It may just be that Hillary will be running against Trump.  Both say things about how they would handle Israel.  We have to look at their past history even more than what they say.

Hillary is proving that her nice words pertaining to Israel are just that-words.  She now calls for an OPEN APPROACH TO HAMAS!  She wants to play nice-nice with the worst terrorists against Israel, and its playing into their hands.  Heaven help us if Hillary becomes president.  She'll be worse than Obama, and that's really what we don't need in these dire times.  Read this website I just posted by Daniel Greenfield.

Donald Trump's Position on Israel

Nadene Goldfoot
Franklin Delano Roosevelt
(1/30/1882-4/12/1945)
He had polio and was confined to a wheel chair.

Jews in the United States have tended to be Democrats at least since Franklin Delano Roosevelt's election, the USA's 32nd president from March 4, 1933 to April 12, 1945 when he died.  He was the Democrat from New York.  In 2008 when Obama was first elected, 71% of Jews identified themselves in the Gallup poll as Democrats.  By 2014, 61% are identifying themselves as Democrats.

President Roosevelt

Donald Trump was a Democrat, but is now running as president in the Republican Party.  He has "consistently and strongly supported Israeli positions on many critical issues."  He agreed with Netanyahu on the Iran nuclear deal and Israeli-Palestinian relations.

He even criticized President Barack Obama about his attitude toward Israel and thinks Netanyahu is a good Prime Minister for Israel. " He accused Obama and the USA Secretary of State John Kerry of having sold Israel out and that it was the USA's job to do everything possible to protect and defend Israel.  He said that Israel was the only stable democracy in the region that is not run by dictators.  He called Israel America's best and most reliable friend." He said that Israel is the cornerstone of USA policy in the Middle East.

He admires Israel for being pioneers in medicine and communication and a close fair trading partner.  His father was always loyal to Israel and he has also, and said he would be doing more for Israel than anybody else.
Salute to Israel New York Parade 2004
He's proven his admiration by having served as the grand marshal for the Israel parade in New York in 2004. He has received many awards from American Jewish organizations for supporting Israel.  Algemeiner, a Jewish news organization also on the web gave him such an award last February 2014.  Upon acceptance, he said that "we love Israel and will fight for Israel 100%, 1,000%.  It will be there forever!

Parchin, Iran and nuclear site
When Trump declared his candidacy on June 16, 2015, he attacked the Iran nuclear deal by calling it "a disaster that could threaten Israel's survival."  Those were also my sentiments, exactly, and many of my friends.

He and Netanyahu get along very well.  Before the 2013 Israeli election, he recorded a 30 second video message endorsing the Likud leader.

The last 8 years of USA presidency has been with Barack Hussein Obama II, and they have been disastrous for Israel. The things he has done to cause pain for Israel has been the following:
1. Blaming only Israel for the impasse in Israeli-Palestinian negotiations which has only strengthened Palestinian recalcitrance.
2. General handling of Israel, White House snub March 2010, leaving Netanyahu, staff in work room while he had dinner with Michelle which was 2nd snub.  .
3. Refusal to use the term "Islamic terrorism"

4. One thing that irks me is the referring to ISIS terrorists as ISIL (which includes the Levant-Jordan, Israel and Egypt) in ISIS's hands and references as only as non-Muslim about the Islamic State, which denies the  reality.

John McCain after returning from Viet Nam on April 24, 1973,
age 37.  Today he's 79 years old born August 29, 1936.
Things Trump admires about Israel are not necessarily things he has vocalized as his position, however.  He has made his own statements about prisoners of war, a stand Israel feels very strongly about but that Trump has said he doesn't admire.  This came up with Senator John McCain who was a POW in Vietnam for 6 years after his plane went down. He was a pilot.   John's father was an admiral and the Vietnamese offered him a special early release which he refused, wanting to be treated like others in this position.  Trump glibly remarked that" he was a "war hero only because he got captured."

IDF Gilad Shalit on October 18, 2011 at age 25 after 5 years as a Prisoner of War from being kidnapped. in a cross-border raid via underground tunnels near the Israeli border.
Captured in Israel by Hamas terrorists, and held hostage for five years until released in exchange for 1,027 Palestinian prisoners
Israel doesn't feel that way at all towards their POW, Gilad Shalit who as a soldier was captured and held as a hostage for 5 years by Hamas in Gaza.  Trump's crass comment was that "I like people who weren't captured."

Another sore point are Trump's statements about immigration to the USA.  On June 16, 2015 he made comments   about Mexico sending in people who bring in drugs, are criminals and so bring in crime and rape people as well here.  Then he included other Latin American countries in this accusation.  After California's San Bernardino massacre, he called for a temporary ban on the entry of MUSLIMS to the USA until the government figured out "what the hell is going on."  Now, this is a sore point with Jews who have suffered being on the immigrant side throughout the centuries.  They have been saved by countries following open immigration.  This has happened with Jews fleeing Russia and Eastern Europe from anti-Semitism which developed into pogroms as well.  They have experienced mass immigration from the Arab countries to Israel in 1948 when Israel was created.

Ship, St. Louis refused entrance to Cuba with 900+ refugeesGerman Jewish refugees return to Antwerp, Belgium, aboard the ocean liner St. Louis on June 17, 1939, after they had been denied entrance to Cuba and the USA. Miami was so close they could see the lights, but they were not allowed to land.
Before and after WWII, Jews could not get into other countries including the USA.  We all remember these horrors so gasped when Trump felt this way towards the thousands of refugees we all see on TV today fleeing from Iraq and Syria.  The difference of course is that Jews were not dangerous to others, but that some Muslim refugees could be.  Also, we all know that once a position has been taken, like stopping immigration of refugees can be longer than they can continue to be alive.  Jews died when refused entrance at the start of WWII.  My father was 21 years old in 1929, the year of the stock market crash causing everyone to be out of jobs.  By 1933 when Jews started to enter the USA from Europe, people were still out of work.  Perhaps they were afraid Jews would take American jobs away from them.  That's still no excuse!

On December 3, 2015, he made another faux pas.  He told Jewish Republicans rather jokingly that he thought they wouldn't back him because he was so rich and didn't need their contributions!  The Israeli media watched this newscast and saw an anti-Semitic slur instead.  It reinforced the anti-Semitic stereotyping of Jews being rich people who control the world and so can buy elections.  They didn't want anyone to think that Israel would be buying this coming election.

Jerusalem where one can find Jewish, Christian and Muslim places to see
So, Trump had told his TV audience that he was going to visit Israel on December 28th and said this just a few days before.  The fact was that it had been scheduled well in advance and had an itinerary planned 2 weeks before his Muslim ban statement on November 19th.  Because of this thoughtless comment which loomed huge in Israel's eyes, his trip had to be postponed.  He'll visit after Israel's presidential elections and said that he didn't want to put Netanyahu under any pressure.  Trump had wanted to accomplish much with this visit by contrasting his support of Israel with the Obama Administrations  abandonment of the Jewish State which really started with the Democratic Party's meeting on what to consider for this 2nd term and God and Jerusalem as Israel's capital  were taken off the platform. Oh, how the Pilgrims would have had a fit at that!

Update: 2/21/16 Donald Trump said on the 18th that he is taking a neutral position in the disagreements between the Palestinians and Israel.  Cruz attacked him for saying this in South Carolina since he feels it is showing that Trump sees it as a problem of false moral equivalency.
Update: 2/26/16  "Donald Trump: “My friendship with Israel is stronger than any other candidate’s. I want to make one thing clear: I want to strike a peace agreement between Israel and the Palestinians. It is what I aspire to do. Peace is possible, even if it is the most difficult agreement to achieve. As far as I understand, Israel is also interested in a peace deal. I’m not saying I’ll succeed, or even that an agreement between Israel and the Palestinians is within reach, but I want to try. But in order for an agreement to happen, the Palestinians need to show interest. It’s a little difficult to reach an agreement when the other side doesn’t really want to talk to you.
“Don’t get confused there in Israel: I am currently your biggest friend. My daughter is married to a Jew who is an enthusiastic Israel supporter, and I have taken part in many Israel Day Parades. My friendship with Israel is very strong.”"

SAL Book: Structural Change vs. Individual Change

A thousand years from now, when historians and philosophers speak of the early twenty-first century in America, it is possible that the primary discussion will not will be about the brutal ideological battles that took place between liberals, conservatives, and moderates; nor will they be heralding the epic political struggles between democrats, republicans, and libertarians.

No. The real struggle of our age is not ultimately a political or ideological struggle; it is rather a tale of misplaced priorities—all of which are undergirded by the dreadfully mistaken notion that there really isn’t any real right or wrong outside of the mercurially unsteady inclinations of the individual.

While there are THREE basic kinds of people in our nation today, it is erroneous to merely categorize the three groups under simple monikers wrought from ponds of political parlance or the inclinations of ideological idiom. Rather, the three categories can be labeled thus:

  1. Those who believe real, lasting societal change begins with purifying the minds and hearts of individuals.
  2. Those who believe real, lasting societal change begins with purifying structures, systems, and organizations.
  3. Those who are fundamentally selfish and therefore don’t care about anything that doesn’t directly impact themselves.

Those in the first group believe that a structure, system, or organization is nothing more than a synergized conglomeration of the individuals that make it up. Therefore, if you purify bad individuals (or purge them from the group) the group itself can begin to heal by virtue of good leadership, morally or otherwise.  The goal of this group is to change individuals, who are then empowered to bring about real and lasting changes in structures, systems, and organizations.  Their view is that if you change the individual, you empower change within the structures.

Those in the second group believe that the structure, system, or organization itself is where the real problem lies, and that if you could only get the larger entity right, then individual purification would naturally follow.  The goal of group two is to perfect systems, which, they believe, will then open up opportunities for individuals to purify themselves.  Their view is that if you change the systems, you empower the individual to change.

Those residing in the third group don’t really believe in anything except that they themselves are more important than others, and that their desires and inclinations ought to be satiated at any cost. The good news is that in civilized societies, such parasites are usually in the minority. The bad news is that they are always a menacing nuisance to larger groups of which they are part. They produce untold sorrow in the hearts and minds of virtually everyone whose paths they cross. The worse news is that their numbers have been gradually multiplying throughout America since the end of World War II—when America reached its apex of selflessness at the conclusion of an epic war where Americans quite literally rescued the rest of the world from the throes of evil.

There are good people to be found in groups one and two, but only group one possesses the correct mindset for bringing about real, lasting change.  This is because structures, systems, and organizations are made up of individuals, not the other way around.  Macro systemic change without is therefore an outgrowth of micro individual changes within.  You cannot create real or lasting change within a macro system without first reforming its micro constituents--it's impossible; anyone who says otherwise is simply parroting the ideological, and I might add--quite popular--but ultimately erroneous rhetoric of group two.  This rhetoric is popular because it is easier.  Yes, it is much easier to look for and try to solve problems that are "out there" than it is to look for problems inside your own self, family, community, group, culture, etc.

Despite the self-evident truism that individual change must precede lasting structural change, group two has grown to become both multitudinous and powerful throughout the United States in recent generations. In defense of group two, it is true that many of their leaders and acolytes are decent people who make legitimate points about changes that do indeed need to be made in structures, systems and organizations--most of which are rooted in regrettable past grievances.

The fundamental problem of our age, however, is that such a large sector of society really does believe the untenable myth that structural change prefaces individual change, which, in actuality, is a mathematical and scientific impossibility. You cannot change a structure or system without changing the individuals who make them up; nor can you cleanse a toxic environment without removing the poison that polluted it in the first place.  A box of apples that has begun to rot is not fixed by replacing the box; it is remedied by extricating the bad apples and replacing them with good ones.  It also involves washing off the residue of rot that has begun to rub off onto what good ones remain.

Over two thousand years ago, a man who claimed to be divine, and who dedicated His life to personal sanctification and purification—and then to teaching others to follow His example—both warned of and condemned those whom he called out as, “whited sepulchres, which indeed appear beautiful outward, but are within full of dead men’s bones, and of all uncleanness.” [1]

I am no divine teacher. I am, however, a teacher. I therefore raise my voice in warning about the dangers of putting the proverbial "cart before the horse" by attempting to sanctify structures without first focusing on purifying—and when necessary purging an organization of—those individuals that form the base ingredient of all false, foul, and fiendish structures presently polluting our nation’s organizational systems, both public and private.

Iwo Jima monument
If America is to regain the national unity, honor, and influence it once held after leading the liberation of an entire Planet from a devil incarnate 70 years ago, the time has come to stop spending so much time complaining and crying about the filth of the outer vessel and begin directing our attention inwardly toward the errors engrossed in our own minds, hearts, attitudes, and behaviors.  It is the only pathway that will return us to greatness.

I do not disagree with nor disparage the good intentions of those seeking to change structures and systems when real problems persist therein.  Many structures and systems are flawed, and need to be revisited, revitalized, and reformed. I simply make an earnest appeal to common sense and natural law, which has, does, and always will demand individual change as the prefacing price of real and lasting organizational purification and change.  After all, won't we as change agents be able to better see what actually needs to change systemically once we are more structurally sound ourselves?  I would argue YES!

Let us therefore stop blaming structures, others, and the past for our problems—both individually and collectively. Let us begin instead to seize upon the power of the present and look deeply within ourselves to see where inner purification is needed. Again, in the words of the master teacher, who upbraided the "whited sepulchres" (who sought to stone the adulteress) with the most poignant of all possible rebukes: “He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her.”[2]

Personal Change is often both difficult & painful
The process of personal purification can prove ponderously and perplexingly painful and problematic—and that is why we are all apt to avoid it so vociferously. It is so much easier to find something wrong with someone or something else than it is to humbly confess, "Yep, I'm part of the problem too."  An even more difficult admission is: "It's my responsibility to change." There are many highly intelligent people throughout our nation who have dedicated decorated careers to pointing out, calling out, and openly condemning the sins of others while completely ignoring their own.

Just the other evening I saw a famed professor from an even more famous University make this very mistake while speaking with the host of a well-known op-ed news program. The host was arguing for changing individuals and families while the professor countered with, “No, structures must be changed first.” With all due respect to the very smart professor; he is dead wrong, and the cultural malaise he seeks to remedy will only get worse until intelligent professors and leaders all over the nation STOP putting the cart before the horse and START teaching their folds that real change always, Always, ALWAYS begins within—not without.

I love my country. I am concerned about her present and future. After nearly three decades of careful research, observation, and experience, I have come to know both intellectually and viscerally that the best way to make America great again is to change myself—and then teach and influence others to do the same. We will never change systems and structures—must less societies and cultures—until we first change ourselves and shepherd our various flocks to do the same.

Jordan R. Jensen, Ed.D.
I have dedicated my life and career to changing myself—and then teaching others to do likewise. If you’d like more information on how you can start this journey of self-change -- and of influencing those you lead to follow your example -- and thereby begin the difficult, but oh-so-rewarding process of bringing about real self-change that can, in-turn, improve your family, community, state, nation, and world by a factor of the only being you can actually control—YOURSELF—I invite you to subscribe to this blog and visit our website at...  www.freedomfocused.com
