No Justice for Terrorist Victims in Judea in 2016

Nadene Goldfoot
Dafna Meir, victim of terrorism

A Jewish mother of 6 children, Dafna Meir, was stabbed to death in her own home in front of 3 of her children in the  village of Otniel in Judea by Palestinian terrorists on January 17th, starting a rash of more stabbings of Jews in Judea-Samaria.  This was murder by any definition.  Her 17 year old, Renana,  was able to give the IDF and Shin Bet security force a description of the killer who was captured 2 days later.  It was 16 year old, Morrad Bader Abdullah,  who after stabbing their mother, had then watched movies. He had been hiding out in the Palestinian Arab town of Beit Amra, about 1.8 miles away  " located twelve kilometers southwest of Hebron.  The apple does not fall far from the tree. "Adais’s father said on Tuesday that he was “proud” of his son for carrying out the attack, the news site Walla quoted him as telling Palestinian media outlets. He also said that the soldiers who arrested his son interrogated all members of the family."

Dafna Meir's children at her funeral
Why in Judea?  Judea is the southern part of ancient Israel which has now been labeled by Jordan as the West Bank.  This is the area that the Palestinians expect to take over and rename as Palestine. Since WWI's end, England had held the mandate for the region for 30 years.  When they left May 14, 1948, Jews living there declared the land as Israel once again which was decided after many meetings with the British and acceptance by the UN.  This acceptance by world order was challenged by the Arabs with a war that turned out to be Israel's War of Independence.  Palestinians have not accepted any peaceful decisions about becoming a state for the past 67 years, and have held their ground to want to drive Israelis into the sea instead.  Even after a gang attack of multiple Arab countries attacking Israel in 1967, with the result that Israel won that battle, have not deterred the Palestinians.  Now they are still trying to scare and drive Israelis out of the land.  Well, Jews were forced out of Israel-Judah in 70 CE with the Roman attack that burned down their Temple.  They're not about to ever leave again.  The land is an integral part of their religious beliefs.  It's even on a  higher level than Washington DC is to the Americans, or Paris is to the French.  The world evidently does not understand this connection.  It's where they were told to live by G-d.

Meir Family before her death
Religious Jews are the ones who have been moving into Judea and Samaria since 1967, their ancient land that was not available to them before.  As if by the will of G-d, Israel won over an amazing attack on them that no gambler would have bet on.  Land that was theirs originally had been decided to be a part of Israel by the British, only to be given away by them to Abdullah, a royal prince without a nation to rule from Saudi Arabia, even though promised to be a part of the Jewish Homeland.  Then to have that Arab country make the false move of joining his compadres in attacking their good neighbor and losing this extra land was indeed a miracle in itself.  No one thought that the  Arabs still using the name of Palestinians, for Jews were also Palestinians before May 14, 1948, would want to settle down and maintain their own state.  They were an assortment of people who  had wandered in from surrounding Arab and non-Arab countries seeking work from Jews in the late 1800s.  To the Arab countries surrounding Israel, Jews were an anathama to them, Jews among Arabs, and this they could not tolerate!  The Palestinian Arabs were fodder for a fight, used as if pawns in a chess game to chase out the Jews.

Here we have Otniel, a village of 810 people of 130 families that is made up of very religious Jews, Orthodox who follow the rules of Judaism and know their ancient history.  They are thrilled to be living on land their forefathers had tread; lived and died on.  Their religion is coming to life for them by being here.  They are not people who were just suffering from religious persecution, but people who respect the land even more than others.  The problem lies in the rest of the world.  They do not see that Israelis should live in Judea and Samaria but must be saved for the Palestinians to make their own state-minus any Jews!!! They call Otniel an illegal settlement, not even giving it the right to be called a village or town.

Even the USA, who is made up of many religions and people, thinks that a Palestine must be only Muslims.  After all, the fact that there are already 48 Muslim majority states in the world is not enough.  There must be the 49th for these belligerent people!  Nothing like bringing democracy to the area;  Israel is made up of 6 million Jews and 1.7 million Arabs, a smattering of Christians and others.  Even Bahia is in Israel.  Now, you go to Saudi Arabia and you will find only Muslims.  No Jews are allowed in Muslim countries.

Otniel was established in 1983.  It lies in the southern Judaean Mountains, south of the famous city of Hebron, which itself is just 18 miles south of Jerusalem.  Everything is so close to each other in Israel.  It's a tiny state of 8,000 square miles.  It was in Hebron that Abraham bought from the Hebronites a plot of land, the Cave of Machpelah in Hebron, in which to bury Sarah, his wife and niece who had just died.  Joshua had assigned the city to Caleb, and it became a levitical city and a city of refuge.  King David reigned here first, before moving his capital to Jerusalem.  It's hard to study our Jewish history, read about Hebron and all that happened here and then know that the land is all belonging to Palestine and Jews are not allowed there.  This cannot happen.

In Otniel is a yeshiva, a religious school usually attended by future rabbis or others who will be experts in their history.  It is a hesder yeshiva headed by 2 rabbis which has an overseas program that attracts Jewish students from Australia and the USA.  The yeshiva itself was under attack in December 2002 when 4 students were killed and 10 wounded in a terrorist attack.  Then in November 21011, Rabbi Dan Martzbach was killed and 2 women wounded when an IDF patrol on alert for suspected terrorists fired on their car as they drove to the Cave of the Patriarchs to pray in the morning.

Shlomit Krigman, terrorist victim
This attack could have spurred on others.  8 days later on January 25th, Shlomit Krigman,23 years old ,  another woman but living in the older town of Beit Horon, was also stabbed to death by 2 Palestinian assailants.  Beit Horon is a town north of Otniel and much larger with a population in 2014 of 1,218.  It's also in Judea.    Started in December of 1977, it lies along the Route 443 between Modi[in and Jerusalem, which is the biblical pass of Beit Horon found in Joshua 10:10.  The population is a mix of secular and Orthodox Jews.  They have a religious elementary school that serves local children as well as those from surrounding villages.  There are also 3 nurseries and a kindergarten, 2 synagogues, a kollel, a mikvah for both women and men, and even a library. "Another woman, 58, was moderately injured in the attack, which took place outside a small market in Beit Horon.  Both attackers, one from nearby Beit Ur al-Tahta, and one from the Ramallah area, were shot and killed by a security guard.  .

Town of Beit Horon, Judea
Krigman, who had previously served as a group leader for the Bnai Akiva Youth Group in Beit Horon, was spending time with her grandparents in the town when she was attacked, according to a message from the community sent out Tuesday morning.  She died later in Hadassah Hospital in Jerusalem.
On January 31st, urther north near Beit El in the Judea and Samaria district,  a Palestinian police officer went terrorist and shot and wounded 3 IDF soldiers at the Focus (checkpoint) leading to Ramallah.  The shooter was also "the driver of the Ramallah district attorney general as well."  He was shot and killed at the scene.  Beit El "Beit El is an Israeli town and local council is located in the Binyamin Region of Judea-Samaria.

Beit El
The Orthodox Jewish town is located in the hills north of Jerusalem, east of the Palestinian city of al-Bireh, adjacent to Ramallah. Beit El's  current population is 6,500 people.  It has grown from 2014 when there were 5,991.  This is where " Jacob slept and dreamt of the angels coming up and down a ladder (Genesis 28:19).
"In 1970, private Palestinian land of al-Bireh and Dura al-Qar was seized by military order for a military outpost and later on consigned to settlers for the purpose of civilian settlement." Remember, Israel had won the 1967 war and therefore got back land promised to them in the first place.  This was land needed for protection.
"In 1977, Beit El was established on the "temporarily" requisitioned land. Seventeen families settled nearby the Israel Defense Forces base. Subsequently the community divided into two settlements. Beit El Aleph (Beit El A) was a residential religious community in the southern part of Beit El, populated by residents who worked in the free professions outside the yishuv. Beit El Bet (Beit El B) was settled on the northern hill around the yeshiva center, founded by Ya'akov Katz and Zalman Baruch Melamed,  partly by trespassing on private land and partly on land purchased by the Himnuta company (a subsidiary of JNF-KKL). It includes public buildings and civilian permanent homes and caravans." That was 37 years ago.
Israel disputes the illegal settlement charge on Jews in the (West Bank). " The international community considers Israeli settlements in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, illegal under international law, though Israel disputes this. The International Court of Justice advisory ruling (2004) concluded that events that came after the 1967 occupation of the West Bank by Israel, including the Jerusalem Law, Israel's peace treaty with Jordan and the Oslo Accords, did not change the status of the West Bank (including East Jerusalem) as occupied territory with Israel as the occupying power." Dozens of pro-Palestinian protesters on Wednesday barged into a public lecture by Jerusalem Mayor Nir Barkat at San Francisco State University, shouting slogans and attempting to prevent him from speaking. "Anyone who thinks that calls for violence and incitement will be able to silence us or divert us from our position is mistaken," Barkat said. "We will continue to build, develop and strengthen the State of Israel and within it a united Jerusalem, and we will continue to voice our opinions and our legitimacy when we are invited to do so, even in places where they try to stop us."  (Jerusalem Post)

2,000 years of Jewish Judges on Abortion

    Nadene Goldfoot

Right now the USA is in a conundrum because out of 9 Supreme Court Judges,  from 2010 Court:
one has died, and Scalia was a conservative in the mix of 4 liberals and 5 conservatives.  Right now they are left with 4 Republicans and 4 Democrats.  Obama wants to appoint another quickly of his choosing since the issue of abortion is on the table.  They are:

Why is it that our federal government is deciding on a question of morality?  Death is in the picture.
In today's modern world, females can opt to take birth control pills or apparati.  When does abortion come into their life as a decision to make?  Why isn't the female allowed to make decisions for her own body and life?  If a female feels she must have an abortion and it is against the law to do so, she will find a way.  There have always been abortionists who have gone against the law and have performed them, to the detriment of the female, of course in many situations, for there is no way to make sure it is done professionally and safely.

Rashi, (1040-1105) from Troyes, France, famous codifier of the law, comparable to
constitutional lawyer, only on religion, descendant of King David.
This question of abortion has been in the Jewish culture for probably over 2,000 years and the decisions are not the same as the Catholic church, but they came about with the wisest of judges who discussed the issue.  They had some basic laws to consider their decision, our moral laws.

                                                   Basic Law
Rabbis made these decisions in their writing of the Mishnah in (Oholot 7:6).  It was concluded not later than the end of the 2nd century CE:  Also, the Bablonian Talmud in Sanhedrin 72b speaks of abortion further.  The commentator, Rashi, also adds information.  Mishnah was finished in about 220 CE.  by Rabbi  Judah Ha-Nasi of the Palestinian (Judah) Jews.  B. Talmud was finished in about same period, but a Talmud includes the Mishnah.

It all stems from the 6th Commandments of Moses.    of Thou Shalt Not Kill.  It says in our Tanach that this takes faith in G-d.  Someone with belief in G-d as the Creator and Sustainer of human life will not commit murder.  Hopefully, today people see the reasoning for not killing (murdering), but it is still happening in our communities.

    1. It is not permitted to murder one person in order to save the life of another.
    2. It is permitted to kill a potential murderer if this is the only way in which the life of his intended victim can be saved.  A potential murderer is called a rodef, translated as a pursuer, one who pursues another in order to kill him.
    3. A fetus is not considered as a literal person.  Destroying a fetus is not considered as an act of murder.  Therefore, its destruction is not an act of homicide.

                                                         Why Abort?
Codifiers were divided on what would be weighty reasons for terminating a pregnancy.

    1. Agreed:  None would permit abortion for economic reasons or where the child is simply unwanted.
    2. When the birth of a child would cause the mother to lose her sanity.
    3. Permit it if child would be born seriously deformed or as an imbecile such as thalidomide babies.
    4. Pregnancy is the result of rape, especially if woman is already married.
    5. To save the life of the mother in which case is extremely rare.

                                                   Judicial Reasoning

    1.  If a woman finds it is extremely hard to give birth to her child and there is great danger to her life, the child must be destroyed in her womb since the life of the mother has priority over the life of the child.  BUT, if most of the child has already emerged from the womb in giving birth, it must not be harmed, since the claim of one life cannot override the claim of another life.

    2. Because once the greater part of the child has emerged from the womb, it is considered as if the child had been born and the child is then a person according to Jewish law.  The life of the mother must not be saved by destroying that of her child.

    3.  While the child is still in the womb, it is not a person in law.  Then this is not an act of murder.  One cannot compare this killing done to save the mother's life to the case of murdering one person in order to save the life of another.  It's more like comparing "destroy" with that of "murder"  There is this legal difference.

    4.  The Talmud asked the Mishnah why it made a distinction between the fetus and the child when the greater part had emerged?  The answer is that the child upon emerging is a person, called a nefesh., but he is not a rodef.  It is the child which threatens the life of the mother and the law is that a rodef must be killed in order to save the life of his intended victim, and this applies even if the rodef is a minor and so not responsible for his actions.

    5. The Talmud stated that the mother is not being "pursued" by the child but by "Heaven."  This means it is the result of natural causes and so the child's life can't be made forfeit on the grounds that he is a rodef.

    6. Rashi, the famous commentator, said that the question of rodef can be disregarded since it is all due to natural causes.  The principal applies that it is forbidden to murder one person in order to save the life of another so that once the child has become a nefesh, when the greater part has emerged, it is forbidden to destroy him even to save the mother's life.
BUT, a fetus is not a person (nefesh), and its destruction is not an act of murder.  The fetus then must be destroyed if this is the ONLY way in which the mother's life can be saved.

Update:  9:56am; Permissive rulings for abortions before the 40th day, and in some instances up to 3 months, are found in certain dire instances.  Opinion have ranged from stricter views of the Chief Rabbi of Israel, Isaac Unterman, to liberal views of Yehiel Yaacov Weinberg, rabbinic scholar and halakhic authority.

Today's Americans, not Jewish scholars, but 9 Judges of the Supreme Court,  must decide whether or not an abortion is permitted to be considered to be a homicide or not.  If it is, then no abortion would ever be permitted.  Evidently Catholicism does not allow it but considers life to start at conception, if one listens to the 17 various  Republicans who had thrown their hat into the ring of presidential hopefuls.

All the Jewish codifiers agreed that where the life of the mother is at stake, an abortion is not only permitted, but must be performed.

Isn't this decision stepping on the toes of religious rights?  Either the Catholic view will be followed or the Protestant one will, they most likely are varied on this..  A woman makes the decision to have some romance and then if found pregnant from it all-without protection-her decision is not her own?  This will only lead to abortion mills, as some women have always done.   On the other hand, if abortion is legal, women will not be as careful about using protection as they can always run to the hospital to have an abortion-most likely free under liberal health laws.  Abortions will be the accepted thing.  Is this the gift of the future for women?  This morality finding itself in the garbage pile?  Choosing a judge under today's circumstance takes much thought, as they will provide answers for more than abortion for us all.  Do they leave the "beholding to the president that appointed them" at the door, or do they think of just the problem before them to judge and how to they come to a decision?  What skills to they bring to the table to decide?  Who will be as acceptable as Judge Scalia was?

The BDS Virus: American Women Association Vote Blindly Against Israel in BDS

    Nadene Goldfoot
Israel is against Apartheid, which the BDS people keep on accusing them of practicing.  This only shows how ignorant these voters against Israel are.  Israel has Jews from every corner of the earth living here along with 1.7 million Muslims who also are in the Knesset and every other form of life in Israel-except the army.  If their conscience doesn't allow them, they don't have to serve.  Those that want to, do.  One of my favorite people in Israel is an IDF soldier who is a Masai warrior from Kenya, Africa.  He's also a lawyer and rabbi in civilian life.
Again, reason and logic are being thrown aside for mass hysteria.  Harry S. Truman voted and backed the new state of Israel, but his voters today have thrown his ideals aside in mass favor of Palestinians.  The leaders in the USA of the National Women's Studies Association , NWSA, just voted for Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions-BDS of economic, military and cultural entities and projects sponsored by the State of Israel.   Covering an array like this, they are against the state of Israel's existence.

    Druze Arab
    Christian Arab Female
    IDF from Ethiopia
The leaders made sure no one would change their minds that they were leading them into by not telling the Jewish Caucus of their goals.  They then sponsored official sessions where speakers presented only one side in the BDS debate, most of which could not have been based on facts.  These included a 2014 list of accusations against Israel and gloating misinformation about the Palestinians, all one-sided.  No Israeli was ever asked to speak in support of their little state.  The attendees there only heard a litany of accusations against Israel.  They were then asked to stand "In support of freedom and justice for and in Palestine."

Israel does not practice any form, shape or otherwise of apartheid.  Israel's democracy is the opposite of the South African past history, yet the uneducated anti-Semites keep throwing this false accusation in Israel's face, just like the Middle Ages of Europe claimed that Jews poisoned the wells or used blood in making matzos.
Dr. Janet Freedman, Hadassah member and writer of my resource article, found that those she spoke with about the resolution of these NWSA women hadn't even read the resolution that they were to vote on.  This is also true of what happened in Portland, Oregon where the city council's unpaid volunteer committee did the same thing and got their committee to also pass a resolution to BDS 4 companies doing business in Israel.  Two voters were Jews who didn't even read the resolution, they confessed, and wanted another chance to re-vote, but no such thing ever happens in real life and it didn't here, either.  The mayor said he'd try to do something about this.  We haven't heard a thing yet.

The BDS movement, started by Palestinians, is not trying to bring Jews and Palestinians together to live in peace.  The BDS people do not want to be confused with facts and have been refusing to listen to any.  Supporters at this conference damned Israel and included language that Israel should not be allowed to even exist.  This is language straight out of Hamas' s charter that Fatah has also adopted.

Palestinians throwing rocks at Jews on Temple Mount, Jerusalem
Though it has been the Palestinians who have been terrorizing Israelis, all this is excused in their need to respond to the Israelis.  They demonize Israelis by complaining about the so called aggression, they cry. They must be addressing the Israeli IDF who have finally responded to thousands and thousands of rockets, mortars and missiles hurled down on their little space of a state by Gazans who refused to stop. They must think that Jews were aggressive when they try to stop Palestinians knifing passers-by in Jerusalem and elsewhere in attempts to murder them.

Within the caucus are Jewish women who feel it would be damaging to their careers to openly oppose the resolution, and they have not stood for Israel's right to exist.  This is a shunda gadol, a huge mistake.  This is the left winning over reason, logic and love for Israel and Judaism.  We sure don't have any Bar Kokhba's descendants here in this group!

Freedman feels that "the BDS movement directs our energy away from ways to find a peaceful solution that respects the humanity of both Israelis and Palestinians.  It oversimplifies to the point of gross inaccuracies." What it is is the Palestinian leadership finding a way to get backing  to drive Israel into the sea without them shooting a shot as they  economically fracture Israel's finances, for it is meant to isolate Israel completely.  It is led by Christian Protestants with leadership from  Palestinians against Israel.  Here we see anti-Semitism go overboard to do something against Jews who couldn't possibly be in the right.

    The Left-following orders
The leadership is led by gut reaction against Israel.  The steering committees of groups who vote don't even study the resolution presented much less read it.  People have become sheep and just do as they are asked.  That this group represented higher education is all the more reason of them doing a damning thing.  People of supposedly higher than normal IQ's are expected to use them, and in this case they have not.

They know nothing of the Palestinian history, who they are, what they have done to Israel, or what Israel has tried to do for them.  What were these women studying, anyway?  How to cook?  How to dress?  Certainly not anything in the Middle East.

BDS is a hate-filled movement, spreading hatred for Jews and Israel.  Israel will survive, just like they have survived the wars of 1948, 1956, 1967 and 1973 along with all the Intefadas and riots and attacks by the Palestinians and their co-horts,  but the BDSers will be long remembered for their antagonism and anti-Semitism.  It will be recorded in history books and in the Book of Life.

In 1967 from June 5th to the 11th,  the world admired Israel for a short while since they overcame all odds of an aggressive Middle East who again tried to crush them but failed.  The odds where breathtaking that Israel won.  The little state, single handed, won the war in 6 days!  Syria, Egypt,  Jordan, Iraq and even  the Soviet Union was against Israel.

What Israel has been up against was said by President Aref of Iraq on June 1, 1967 on Radio Baghdad:
WE ARE RESOLVED, DETERMINED AND UNITED TO ACHIEVE OUR CLEAR AIM OF WIPING ISRAEL OFF THE MAP...THIS IS THE DAY TO WASH AWAY THE STAIN.   GOD WILLING, WE SHALL MEET IN TEL AVIV AND HAIFA.

Ahmed Shukairi, leader of the PLO-Palestine Liberation Organization was interviewed on June 4th on the fate of native-born Israelis.  He said, :THOSE WHO SURVIVE WILL REMAIN IN PALESTINE, BUT I ESTIMATE THAT NOT MANY OF THEM WILL SURVIVE.

They are still trying, aren't they?  And Americans have fallen right in.  Like Dr. Freedman said, "The voices of Jews and others whose positions are rooted in the right of Israel to exist as a state have been silenced."  Well, Janet, mine hasn't been silenced.  Victor Sharpe's voice hasn't been silenced.  There are many others, but certainly the Jewish voices of  NWSA have been silenced, unless they find they have a spine and start educating themselves about Israel.
