Israel Keeps Morals in Fighting; Trump Needs to Learn Why

Nadene Goldfoot

Donald Trump has been talking tonight about how he would use waterboarding on ISIS terrorists to gain information need to save our American population.  He would expand the use, do something a little worse,  was his inference.

This is a pretty shocking attitude to many of us.  He had great reasoning as to why.  ISIS was cutting off heads.  They did worse than waterboarding.  The problem is, seeing such vulgar acts causes most people  to want to retaliate in kind.

I was reminded of something I had just read by Gil Troy, a professor of history at McGill University in Montreal in his article in Hadassah Magazine this month, "Courage Under Fire".
PA leader, Mahmoud Abbas

Yasser Arafat
Lately,  the PA leadership, Yasser Arafat's replacement of Abbas and his former terrorist cohorts, thought up a real doozy of a way to attack Israel without being caught so as to be labeled terrorists again.  They told lies to their Palestinian people that Israel was going to change the status of the Temple Mount in Jerusalem.  In fact, they said, they want to tear down their mosque and build their Third Temple there.  At the least, they will take over the Temple Mount shortly !

Moshe Dayan, pointing.  (1915-1981) He lost an eye in 1941 when in the British army in Lebanon.  He was chief of general staff of the Israel army from 1953-8 and in 1956.  Was Minister of Defense just before 1967, resigned in 1974.
Now, the truth of the matter is that Israel, through Moshe Dayan, voluntarily let the Jordanian  Islamic Waqf have religious control there since 1967, after Israel won the 1967 War.

The PA has been "whipping up impressionable Palestinians to kill Israelis in a less violent way like the usual suicide bombings.  This time they walked by Jews and stabbed them with knives.  If that was killing too few Jews,  they got in their cars and rammed them into crowds of people, mostly in Jerusalem, which they want to take over anyway.

What has been Israel's reaction?  We use the Torah for guidance, and from it we learn we may fight when necessary, as everyone should know by now, being Israel has had to fight from the very beginning of its birth in 1948.  That was the War of Independence 1947-1949.  Then they had to fight in 1956 in The Sinai War from October 29 until November 5, 1956.   In 1967 Israel had to fight the Six-Day War from the 5th to 11th of June 1967. .  That was followed in 1973 in the Yom Kippur War.  That's been followed by Two Intefadas and many other battles.

Judaism is the religion of this tiny country, just like Islam is the religion of Pakistan and Christianity is the religion of the USA.    "Judaism is not Christianity preaching "love thy enemy," but still our sages advised us not to gloat, not to turn brutal---for our sake and our adversaries."

Mr. Troy told the story of a recent attack in Jerusalem's Mahane Yehuda market.  Two children, age 14 and 16 answered the call of the PA and stabbed an old Jewish man in his head with their scissors!  A shopkeeper came out of his shop and knocked down one of them, a girl, with a chair that was sitting outside the market.  An Israeli radio pundit interviewed him afterwards and asked him how he felt about being a hero and saving the man's life by stopping these two.

He answered that he felt terrible!  He couldn't feel happy about doing it because it was a kid that he had to stop.  His humanity is the opposite of how the Palestinian culture teaches.  They are taught to take part in this insane incitement.  They have a song to help instigate their teens.  "I'tan, I'tan (Stab, Stab).  They celebrate the killing of any Jew, no matter what their age.  They stoop low enough by teaching their children, like these young teens, to turn into murderers.  It's also what ISIS has been doing on an even grander scale.

Terrorists see Israelis as weak because they love their children and do not like to kill.  They just don't get it.  It's the Israeli's strength!  They will not lose their morality and standards just because they have to fight!

Israelis fight because they have been put into the position of fight or die, so they "fight to keep their moral compass."  Israel is fighting the Palestinians that are Hamas terrorists because they have taken on the role as Israel's enemy, in constantly trying to kill Israelis.  As long as they prefer to be Israel's enemy, Israel will fight them intensely.  Israel intends to stay strong and take pride in keeping their moral standards and not sinking as low as their enemy in their behavior.  They have standards of behavior, perhaps much stronger than the USA's standards.  With it all, they have great hopes and determination to eventually achieve peace with the enemy.
The First Geneva Convention goes back to 1864 to protect sick and wounded soldiers.
It covers such things as
treatment of prisoners of warmilitary necessity, along with distinction and proportionality; and the prohibition of certain weapons that may cause unnecessary suffering.  It's about  the limits to acceptable wartime conduct

Trump has not been in the army or any other service in the USA.  He hasn't been in moralist discussions about how and why it is important to keep standards in fighting.  There are international accepted laws pertaining to how to conduct oneself in a war if a soldier.  He thinks, at this time in history, that it's okay to waterboard just because ISIS has gone back to the dark ages with their cutting off heads and other disgusting way of winning a war. He's going to obey the laws now, but change them to allow waterboarding excesses.    So he's going to lower the boom because the enemy has done so.

Thank G-d Israel has not done that.  Golda Meier, Israel's past Prime Minister, has said many things about having to fight against the enemy. A leader who doesn't hesitate before

he sends his nation into battle is not fit to be a leader."

"We do not rejoice in victories. We rejoice when a

new kind of cotton is grown and when strawberries

bloom in Israel."   "It is true we have won all our

wars, but we have paid for them. We don't want

victories anymore."    "We Jews have a secret

weapon in our struggle with the Arabs; we have no

place to go."  But the next is my favorite saying of hers.  "

“We can forgive the Arabs for killing our children. We cannot forgive them for forcing us to kill their children. We will only have peace with the Arabs when they love their children more than they hate us."

Where Religion and Politics Are Interwoven; What's the Difference?

Nadene Goldfoot

The goal of this 4,000 year old religion of Judaism has  been used  to control a population's behavior by laying down standards that improve their morality.  Yet we do not use any policing.  It's up to the individual.   We have the story of Abraham's nephew, Lot, who lived in Sodom, inhabited by people who had no morals at all. If they had a religion, it had nothing to do with their morals.   A mob outside his home  wanted to sodomize the strangers in Lot's house.

We also feel that all will be good when we die and trust in what G-d has in store for us if we have tried to follow the Torah and 10 Commandments.  The orthodox believe in the resurrection of the dead at the end of time.  Judaism places its emphasis on practical religion instead of dogma.  The essence of this religion is the Golden Rule, do not do to others what you do not want done to you.  We do not think about being saved by anyone or thing except by our own actions.  NO one can do that for us.  So when people accuse us of some horrid act that we would not want done to us, we cringe at the idea of people thinking we could do such things.  Leftist thinking has been led by Jews committed to saving the world from itself, and in doing good deeds (mitzvot).  This has happened so often that Jews themselves forget that they also have rights, only recently received-mainly since immigrating to the USA and in Israel.

One can say that G-d will protect us, the people who took the responsibility of all 10 Commandments, but G-d also helps those who help themselves, so we must use our brains and work very hard to stay alive in a hostile world; especially in our neighborhood.  We have the whole world judging our every move while they ignore the serious deadly acts of others.

The morality of the people is part of the service and worship of G-d or the supernatural, a higher power.  It's a commitment or devotion to their religious faith or observance system of religious attitudes, beliefs, and practices.  Religion is a cause, a principle, or system of beliefs held to with ardor and faith.  A religion's morality should be an improvement of behavior designed to bring about peace; something good for the people as well as the planet.  Morality evolves with different groups of people.  Human sacrifice has been part of many religious people over the centuries.  Isaac, Abraham's son, was asked by G-d to sacrifice his son, Jacob, but was stopped and thus brought about human sacrifice to an end.  The Incas sacrificed people at a much later date.  Cannibalism has been found in Africa, less than 100 years ago.
USA 1933-1945 President Franklin Delano Roosevelt , where religion and politics are not to mix being the country is made up of many religions and standards.

King Solomon of Israel (961-920 BCE)  The government
must follow the laws of Judaism.

The goal of politics is the art or science of governing.  It is concerned with guiding or influencing governmental policy.  Those involved are concerned with winning and holding control over a government..  It includes the political actions and policies and business.  There is competition between competing interest groups or individuals for power and leadership in a government.  Political activities  are characterized by artful and often dishonest practices.  It includes the total complex of relations between men in society.  Saddam Hussein ruled with an iron hand.  So did the Romans.  Any infringement whatsoever and the Judeans were crucified, left hanging with rotting bodies as a lesson to the people to be subordinate.  .

Hammurabi, an Amorite, King of Babylon 1725-1686 BCE and the sun god, Shamash-god of justice.  Hammurabi is known for the set of laws called Hammurabi's Code, which constitute one of the earliest surviving codes of law in recorded history
Moses came along later in 1391-1271 BCE from tribe of Levi and received the 10 Commandments
Hammurabi stele
The Law Code of King Hammurabi found on a stele is quite similar to the 10 Commandments of Moses.  This stele was found in Shusan, capital of Persia (Iran).  "Shushan, which lies 200 miles east of Babylon, was the capital of ancient Elam (Susiana), and later the winter palace of the Persian kings. It was the scene of many biblical events in the time of Daniel, Nehemiah, Queen Esther and King Ahasuerus (Xerxes).  It's what the king used to govern.  Judaism made improvements on these laws, found to be somewhat similar.

"Both state that stealing would not be tolerated and was looked down upon. Murder was also looked down upon and adultery was a grave offense. These are where the likeness stops."  "Both the Ten Commandments and Hammurabi’s Code served as the bases for criminal justice system in the Hebrew and Babylonian people and set the base line for people to strive to be truthful and do no harm to one another.  "

It looks like many fail to even live up to the Hammurabi Code today let alone the Mosaic Law.

Abraham of 2nd millennium BCE
As I wrote before, religion created the state of Israel in the beginning.  Judaism was depending on its population to be living in a particular area, which was  Canaan.  The Israelites were a group who had already become monotheistic through their originator and father, Abraham, who is also father of the Arabs through his first son,  Ishmael.  Before his revelations of a oneness of G-d, his people had been idol worshippers and his father, Terah,  was an idol maker.  Moses, a child of Israelites, had been brought up as an Egyptian Prince, but was tapped by G-d at age 80 to lead the Israelite slaves out of Egypt and into Canaan to be the future priests of the concepts he was to receive.

1917 French soldiers in Syria when Ottoman Empire and Germany lost the war against the West
All throughout history, countries have been coveting others' land and have killed for it, 2 things listed on the 10 Commandments of what not to do.  So they have thought very little of these 10 Commandments brought by Moses for the world.  The list of  10 are even kept out of public places in the USA as something walking over other religion's rights.  They are not evidently seen as something for all.  Think what the world could have been like if everyone was able to follow all 10 laws.  The first 5 are about man's duties to G-d.  The second 5 are about man responsibilities to his fellow-man.

2015 and bloody ISIS slayers acting like Medieval killers cutting off heads The shock and awe of this group is that they actually attract like people and many join up with them from other countries.  Evidently there are a lot of meshugenas in the world who have no moral conduct.
ISIS is doing it again, coveting Syria and Iraq and the rest of the Middle East.  They want the Levant and then plan on more.  They are acting out their religious beliefs as Salafists are the extreme group of Islamists.

What is Putin acting out of besides coveting more land of Ukraine and Crimea and taking it?  His religion and politics come from atheism which disavows the existence of any higher power to govern our lives. Atheism is the disbelief in the existence of a deity.  It's ungodliness.  They will not even believe in one unseen G-d as we do.  For them there is no higher power.  Things just happen, evidently. They do not question how the universe got here, or rely strictly on scientific interpretation, which leaves some holes in their theory, like the power behind it all that got it started.  They do not need a code or set of laws to know what is right and what is wrong.  For them they go by their instincts.  We hope most people would know instinctively what is right and what is wrong, but then ask the police why they have so many in jails and prisons?  Evidently there are those who either don't know or don't care. A little guidance helps. Children need to be taught.

Iran's President Hassan Rouhani, -head of government- puppet of Ayatollah who rules the realm.
Neda Agha Soltan, Iranian student killed in Arab Spring Demonstration, a girl just watching.

Ayatollah Khamenei b: July 16, 1939, Supreme Religious leader of Iran-Head of State
"The 1979 Constitution designated the Supreme Leader of Iran as the head of state and the President and Prime Minister as the heads of government. The post of Prime Minister was abolished in 1989."

The Shi'ite religion of the Ayatollah threatens Israel verbally with extinction.  Now their government has finagled methods of which to get their hands on atomic power and threaten that in a few years, Israel will be no more.  They call themselves a people of religion.  What kind of religion is this whose chief motivation in the world it to destroy Israel?  Coveting, killing are but 2 of the 10 commandments they break in this.

In the beginning of the Arab Spring a movement heading towards democratic power, the Iranian government mowed down anyone acting out in the crowd and punished them quickly.  It was like being doused with cold water.  It ended.  They rule with a strong and deadly hand. They do not worry about political correctness in the way Americans do.

1. Many states are Islamic states.  Pakistan, Iran, Afghanistan, Saudi Arabia, Yemen, Somalia-which is threatening Kenya and Mauritania belong to this group. Palestine, if and when created, will be one.  They have stated that no Jews will be able to live in their state.
2. Islam is the state religion of Bangladesh, Egypt, Algeria, Morocco, Malaysia, Tunisia, Tajikistan, Libya, Jordan, United Arab Emirates, Oman, Bahrain, Comoros, Qatar, Brunei and Maldives.

3. Announcing NO religion is Indonesia, Sudan, Syria, Sierra Leone, Lebanon and  Albania.  These are states who are Muslim majority in population. This means the government does not get involved in the religion of the people.
4. Some states are secular such as:  Nigeria, Turkey, Iraq, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Niger, Burkina, Mali,  Senegal, Guinea, Azerbaijan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan, Chad, Kosovo, The Gambia, Djibouti, and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.  All these are of Muslim majority states as well.  Secular means: indifference, or rejection or exclusion of religion and religious consideration.  These governments are saying they do not mix in with religion or use religion in their governmental decisions. Turkey has become more religious with their present president.  A lot depends on what beliefs the leaders have as to how much seeps into the governmental decisions.
The USA is a secular state.  There  is Separation of church and state.

The state religion of Israel is Judaism. It is the ONLY Jewish state in the world.   When Israel was more secular under the last king, King Solomon, and was more involved with other states and such, it divided when Solomon died so that they could follow their own way of governing and the southern part became Judah.  Being a small state to begin with compared to empires, they became vulnerable to the attacking Assyrians and then later the Babylonians.  Today, Jews have become  almost extinct through the Holocaust, down to only 14 million people worldwide-6 million only in Israel, a very tiny country.  The religion, in order to survive, is again thriving in their  Jewish state run with Jewish values and must remain this way.  Don't worry.  Judaism may be 4,000 years old, but it updates constantly and keeps up with the times.  It is not a medieval religion.

It cannot become  another Lebanon where Christians who were the government were overpowered by their Muslim majority population. Today, Israel is 75-80% Jewish and 20-25 % Muslim.

Morality of Our Enemies: Present and Past

Nadene Goldfoot
Palestinians demonstrating

A young rabbi and his wife were shot and killed in drive-by shooting.  Their 4 children were in back seat witnessing their parents' deaths.
What turns my stomach is the morality displayed by the Palestinians.  They are made joyous over the death of innocent Jews of Israel.   The Palestinians do not seem to share our morals.  From Palestinian Media Watch we learn that "Palestinians have been celebrating the murder of Israelis by distributing the pictures of dead bodies of Israelis and the terror scenes on Twitter and Facebook, according to the official PA daily. The "most significant" picture is that of the dead bodies of the young Israeli couple Naama and Eitam Henkin who were murdered in front of their four children last week. According to the PA daily, the killing of the couple brings "joy" to Palestinians who see the killing as "heroic".  This is their practice, to give out candies and be happy when they hear of a Jew killed by one of them.  They call the killers martyrs and name streets and places for them.

Palestinians danced in the streets when they heard about 9/11 and the 3,000 Americans that were killed.  (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rKT-9OpneoY)

IS on the prowl
Today Palestinians have reason, one would think, of fearing IS as this Salafist group has been cutting off the heads of Sunnis, followers of Islam but of a different sect than IS.  IS is a group gone mad and enticing to other madmen and women.  They are the epitome of evil.  They kill and rob others.

During the Exodus 3,200 years ago, Moses taught the Jews to not cheer when the Egyptian soldiers who were chasing them died in the returning water and drowned.  The Jews were told that they were G-d's children, also.  Our lessons came to us while on the Exodus from Moses who was told these things by G-d. It was during a time when mankind was practicing the most vile of habits as judged by today's standards.

It's taken a long time for us Homo Sapiens to learn about having morals. It's possible that Cro-Magnon (early humans) knew something and did have some social standards. They were in the Middle East 37,000 years ago.

Remember  the story of Lot, Abram's nephew who was the son of Abraham's brother, Haran?
Lot had traveled with Abraham but quarreled with his uncle and decided to settle in famed city of Sodom. Have you read  the story of Sodom and Gomorrah?  Sodom's people were most wicked without any morals at all.  Abram had been born in the year 1948 BCE  from the time of creation as Avram, the Hebrew-speaking Ivri (Hebrew)  who came from the other side of the Euphrates River with his father, Terah.  The Sodomites wanted to sodomize (gang rape) some strangers. who had sought refuge in Lot's  house in Sodom.    At that point, Lot offered his 2 daughters to the masses who were rioting outside his window because they wanted the strangers that were with Lot.  The code of honor was that a guest was safe in his house, and he chose to offer his daughters to pacify the crowd instead. Lot didn't realize it but the strangers were angels.    You can only imagine what the mob would  have done to his daughters.  One sees that females were not at the same level as males yet of importance.
Then, of course, according to the original Jewish story, Abram offered Isaac to G-d, ready to do child sacrificing, which was obviously done in those days at that locale.  It turned out to be a story showing when this practice stopped with the Jewish people as G-d then told him that he was to sacrifice an animal, instead. With Abram's birth, the world had gone into a new phase of intelligence and understanding. It was then his name changed to Abraham because he was told he would be the father of many nations.  (Genesis 17:5).

Later, when Moses led the Israelites out of Egypt, in about 1310 BCE,  he had to go through the land of the Amaleks, who chased them with great hostile forces.  The Amaleks themselves were a nomadic people who wandered between the southern lands  and Canaan,  and had attacked the Israelites in the desert near Rephidim shortly after the Exodus had started and they killed the weak and weary travelers that lagged at the end of the line.  Other lands had not reacted as violently when they realized that 600,000 men, women and children were going through their lands to reach their destination.  "The Amaleks had their origin within the Edomites, being descendants of Esau. They are often associated with Edom, living in the same area as Edom"     Edom, also called Idumea, was around Mt. Seir and mountainous. The people lived by hunting.  They had kicked out the Horites who had lived their first.  These people, also Semites,  were tribal with a chief, and later had a monarchy.  They fought against King Saul and later, King David.   Finally they became part of the Jewish people as John Hyrcanus, ruler in Jerusalem 135-104 BCE  converted them by force. He was the son of Simon, the Hasmonean.   Herod was one of the Idumean  descendants.

We know that when Joshua  in the 13th century BCE reached Canaan, there was a fight for the land, and the most all of the Canaanites were slaughtered in that battle.  Those that lived were taken into the new society by marriage.  Few left the land.  Canaanites, a people descended from Canaan, son of Ham, were divided into 11 peoples who occupied the area between the Nile River of Egypt and the Euphrates River of Iraq.  The recent people of Syria had called themselves Canaanites.  Going back even further, the Canaanites were a mixture of HoritesHittites and Hebrews who dated back to the Hyksos period of the 17th century BCE, Philistines who had lived along the coast in the 12th century BCE, and the Arameans in the north in the 11th century BCE.

King Saul sparing the life of Agag
When Saul was Israel's first king, he captured Agag, the Amalek  king  in a battle  and spared his life.  Samuel, the prophet was not happy about this bid of kindness because the Israelites had been told to wipe out the Amaleks by G-d because they were so evil.

King David
The Amaleks were finally defeated by the Israelite men under Joshua's leadership.  Israelites regarded the Amaleks as an eternal foe.  Later, during the period of Israel's judges before they had a king, of the 12th and 11th centuries BCE, the Amaleks penetrated western Israel at various points and their presence was a standing threat to the peace of the country.  During King David's time, (1010-970 BCE)  the Amaleks invaded southern Judea and burned the town of Ziklag.  David fought and defeated them mightily, with only 400 escaping from him.
Haman and his 3 cornered hat
When Hezekiah, King of Judah  reigned from 720-690 BCE,  the tribe of Simeon overwhelmed the Amaleks and settled in their territory.  The name, Amaleks, has remained as a symbol of everlasting enmity to Israel.  Haman, the villian in our Purim history  that took place in Persia, who had the morality of Hitler, was an Agagite and was regarded as a descendant of Agag, King of  Amalek.  Haman wanted to kill all Jews in the empire and had a decree for it to happen.

Moses taught us to have morals and to not be like the people around us.  That's why so many laws existed.  We were to remember and be above the actions of others since we were to act as the examples of good behavior so as to be copied.   This is what we are all about;  people of the Golden Rule of not treating people in a way we wouldn't want to be treated, and people of the Mosaic Law.

The story is that all the people were visited and offered the 10 Commandments, but there was always given some kind of excuse as to why all 10 could not be followed.  Finally, Moses accepted them all for us to follow.  I find it interesting that Hammerabi, king of Babylon from 1728 BCE to 1686 BCE also had had a code, but the 10 commandments from Moses surpassed and improved on that list.  His penalties for not following his code were severe.  Hammerabi held to the Jus Talionis (eye for an eye) punishment.   The 10 Commandments have appeal to the human conscience through the religious and ethical nature of the Torah .  Hammerabi's code depended on custom and obedience to the king's will.

Update: 6:57pm Thursday: Jerusalem especially has been under attack this last week.  "Jerusalem Mayor Nir Barkat:

“Come out today with your licensed guns, for those who know how to use it, that’s what needed right now. In a way, this is like reserve duty.”

This is a complete list of attacks that Arutz7 has published, it will give you some idea of what we are facing here in Israel.Thursday, October 1:
Rabbi Eitam and Naama Henkin were gunned down in their car near Itamar, in Samaria. The young parents, who were in their thirties, were residents of Neria in Samaria. They were murdered in front of the eyes of their four children, aged four months, four years, 7 and 9, who were in the car at the time. A five man Hamas terror cell that carried out the attack was arrested several days later.  from friend Victor Sharpe's article, Israel is one big terror attack right now.  Information sent to him by  a Danish friend, Jane Kiel, in Jerusalem, Israel:
