Defending Israel's Right of Existence: Overview Proving Their Right

Nadene Goldfoot
Ayatollah Khamenei of Iran, bent on destroying Israel

In 2001, Faisal Bodi,  Muslim journalist, speaker and educator, had said some things I'd like to challenge. I don't think he's changed his mind yet.

Auschwitz
He stated in his student's newspaper that the Holocaust was garnishing sympathy that Jews were using to gain a foothold in Palestine.  (I'd like to ask him how many people he knew who were slaughtered to the number of 6 million just because they were Jewish?)  This is the very reason the Jewish leaders forsaw and worked so hard to get back our ancient land.     Jews have almost become extinct!  We're down to 14 million in the whole world.  That's less than 1%.  It's something like 0.02% of the world population.

Then he had the audacity to say the same things at Leo Baeck College in London.  He felt that Israel had no right to exist and that there was no moral case for the existence of Israel.  This sounds like a page right out the Ayatollah Khamenei's book, or the Ayatollah  took his out of Bodi's.  At any rate, I can see that they cannot accept any facts about Israel's existence in the Middle East.

Golda Meier had made the statement that it was absurd to call Israel's legitimacy into account when G-d Himself called in the Jews to live there as stated in the Bible.  Faisal Bodi finally said, "That biblical promise is Israel's only claim to legitimacy, but he can't accept the boundaries written down that from the Euphrates to the Nile  belong to Abraham's seed, and now this is where Faisal errs big time.

It sounds like he doesn't want to accept the idea that Arabs and Jews are cousins.  DNA is proving that we have a connection, though Jews are closer to the Kurds.   He accuses Jews of taking the land by force and chicanery that was lawfully inhabited and owned by others.  He's bringing up the  Oslo agreement and the Arabs owning the land.  History is not his forte.  The question is ownership.  There were very few owners.  If an Arab shows legal claim to a piece of land, he is awarded this in Israel through the court system.  The land was not taken by force except in the days of Moses.  He does not dispute that day and age.  He's bringing the fight up to date to 1948.

70 CE, destruction of 2nd Temple in Jerusalem
But we must step back to look at history.  First of all, Judah, the southern part of Israel, was still standing when the Romans invaded and occupied Judah over 100 years before Jerusalem was destroyed along with the Temple in 70 CE.  Jews were taken prisoner and marched into Rome as slaves.  Some Jews left town just before that main attack.  Many hid in other parts of Judah.  Some became the Jews who went from Rome to France and Germany who picked up the title of Ashkenazi Jews.  Others headed for Spain and became the Sephardi Jews.  Those who remained in the area  in other countries were the Mizrachi (Middle-eastern) Jews as Mizrachi refers to Egypt.  But mainly, there were Jews stayed in Judah.   Throughout the years, Jews returned either singly, in family groups, or larger groups to the land of their fathers.

In  the 1880's, anti-Semitism was causing pogroms, attacks that often led to deaths, in Russia and thereabouts.  It drove Russians into returning in 5 groups called Aliyahs starting in 1880.  It was hard living, but they were determined to get along with the few Arabs there and the Ottoman officials.   During this period, Jews bought land, legally bought it according to the law of the land.  They had an angel help who was the banker, Rothschild.  He helped out some of those who made Aliyah until they got on their feet.

Bedouins in their tent
There was no other country who created a state out of the destroyed Israel or Judah.  There were empires who took land through the ages, but did nothing to very little with it.  They were there to collect taxes from people there and that was it.  It was empty wasteland, a backwater nobody wanted to reside in.  The Arabs there were not former citizens of Judah like the Jews.  They were wanderers.  Only a  few had bought land from the former Ottoman Empire and were landowners.

Another poke at Faisal Bodi's argument against Israel existing is that he claims that under international law, the Balfour Declaration was null and void.   Here I go.

The Ottoman Empire, headed by....joined forces with Germany in World War I. "On November 14, 1914, 101 years ago in Constantinople, capital of the Ottoman Empire, the religious leader Sheikh-ul-Islam declares an Islamic holy war on behalf of the Ottoman government, urging his Muslim followers to take up arms against Britain, France, Russia, Serbia and Montenegro in World War I."

Germany and their partners lost the world-wide war.  The conclusion was that they  lost land they held.  The League of Nations had been created for just such an event in 1920.  "The League of Nations was an international organization, headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland, created after the First World War to provide a forum for resolving international disputes. Though first proposed by President Woodrow Wilson as part of his Fourteen Points plan for an equitable peace in Europe, the United States never became a member.Even so, it was always practiced that if you lost a war, you had to make a deal and sign a peace treaty.  The deal was a loss of land.
The League lasted for 26 years; the United Nations (UN) replaced it after the end of the Second World War on 20 April 1946 and inherited a number of agencies and organizations founded by the League."

The League of Nations gave Britain a mandate.  That was a pact of being watchdog over the land for 30 years.  The War was from 1914-1917, and that meant they were taking care of the land until May 14, 1948.  They did a bad job.  They gave TransJordan to Abdullah I and made him king.  It was land that was part of Palestine-meant for the Jewish Homeland.  Then, when Nazi Germany started harming Jews in the 30's, they kept out Jews trying to enter Palestine.  The Sherif of Jerusalem, Haj Amin al-Husseini, started riots in Jerusalem in 1929 that brought death to Jews.  He was a minor leader who was afraid of losing his post given to him by a British Jew!!!  Jews were trying to save Jews during WWII and the Brits were busy catching Jews and hanging them for doing so.

However, The “Mandate for Palestine,” an historical League of Nations document, laid down the Jewish legal right to settle anywhere in western Palestine, between the Jordan River and the Mediterranean Sea, an entitlement unaltered in international law. The “Mandate for Palestine” was not a naive vision briefly embraced by the international community. Fifty-one member countries – the entire League of Nations – unanimously declared on July 24, 1922:

“Whereas recognition has been given to the historical connection of the Jewish people with Palestine and to the grounds for reconstituting their national home in that country.” Then in 1922 they gave 80% of it to Abdullah for a kingdom.  He was from Saudi Arabia and missed out on the chance to become king there, so he wanted to here.

United Nations 1948
The United Nations took a vote and accepting Israel as a nation was passed.  So they had to stand a double vote upon themselves and go through that stress after all that had been done to them.  But Faisal Bodi stated that Palestine had belonged to Turkey, not Britain-and he accepts the fact that this is under the pact of the League of Nations.  No Mr. Bodi.  They lost land because they lost the war.  Palestine was in the hands of the League of Nations to decide what to do with it.  The lesson here is that one should not be the aggressor and try to take other people's land.  When you do you lose your holdings instead.  Germany had the same thing happen to them.  They invaded land in Europe.  Those countries declared war on Germany in return.
Japan invaded Pearl Harbor.  Look at their lesson.  They were hit with 2 atom bombs.

Jews were not welcomed with a welcome wagon on their return to their land even though they had the blessings from Emir Feisal, the most important Arab leader of the day.  He realized the handicap they were under, no education, no skills, and was hoping they would benefit from the Jews' presence.  At the same time, he wanted land for himself because his main concern was selfish.  He wanted to be a king.  Neither the Jewish leaders or Feisal were told by the Brits that they were in competition for the same pieces of land.  Feisal went on to become king of Syria and then king of Iraq.  Either country would have been in better shape under his rule.

War of Independence 1947-1949
The moment the Brits left on May 14, 1948, the Jews claimed statehood.  Before that Jews had been shot at and attacked by the Arabs who were aroused by their leader, Husseini in Jerusalem.  My own 3rd cousin, Stanley Goldfoot, was involved as he had been chosen as the Chief of Intelligence by the Stern Group, a group created that was tougher then the main defenders of land led by the Jewish leaders, the Haganah.

King Abdullah II of Jordan
It isn't our religious birthright that keeps us in a never-ending cycle of conflict, Mr. Bodi, which you say.  It's the constant refusal of making peace coming from the Arab leadership.  For 67 years, your people refuse to accept the fact that Jews are back.  Egypt finally made peace.  Jordan finally made peace.  In fact, you could call Jordan the Palestine, but King Abdullah II wants none of that.  He's a Hashemite-from Arabia, and that is his kingdom now.  He refuses to take in any more Palestinian Arabs.  You say, "Rightful inhabitants are Palestinian Arabs?  Most came in following the Jews of the Aliyahs in search of jobs.  There were only a few who were landowners.  They were Bedouins, wanderers.  Hamas refuses to make peace.  They are terrorists and that's what they want to do; drive Israel into the sea. They never have wanted peace.

Israel:  a country with a 9 mile width
As for your idea of one state for Jews and Arabs, it already exists.  Israel has 6 million Jews (the amount lost in the Holocaust) and 1.7 million Arabs.  I would not want to see what happened to Lebanon happen to Israel.  The Christian minority in Lebanon has been slaughtered by their own Lebanese Muslims and by ISIS.  Major Hadad, Christian Militia, was a great friend of Israel.  He saw it coming.  A certain segment of Muslims have followed those that sermonize hatred and killing, which is just ruining the Middle East.  They've taken their own religion and have bastardized it for the peaceful followers of Islam.  Israel was created as a Jewish country.  2,000 years have gone by and we have been guests and citizens where citizenship was taken away because of being Jewish.  Israel is the only Jewish country in the world.  You have 48 Muslim majority countries in the world without having a Palestine.

You should now lecture and practice what you are preaching, in that justice has to be restored instead of stepped up as Muslims are going wild in Jerusalem today attacking Jews with knives and guns.  As it turns out, many of the terrorists are from Judea and Samaria-the West Bank.  The Hadassah Hospital is close by, and those terrorists are attacking the Hospital.  1/3 of the Arabs in the community nearby are the terrorists.  So much for a one-state solution.
Sderot, constantly hit from Gaza

Ashkelon, Portland, Oregon's sister city, hit from Gaza with missiles, mortars, rockets, with the hospital in danger forcing doctors to operate underground.
Israelis have turned the other cheek so often it makes my head spin in the onslaughts against them.  When they reach the point of knowing it's enough and have warned and responded, they hear from the other nations because they are not returning rocket, mortar and missile fire with David's slingshot.  No, they are trying to keep their small and almost extinct population alive.  First the Nazis set about to kill all Jews in the world. No, I take that back.  The first was Haman in  Persia in Queen Esther's day.  He plotted to kill all the Jews in the Persian Empire, which was huge!  Now the Arabs and the ancient Persians named the Iranians are plotting to do it again.  Well, we're all stubborn.  Be nice to Jews and Jews will be nice to you.  Try to kill Jews and they won't sit for it.  They will defend themselves.   Jews are in no hurry to die.

Mr. Bodi's views were too strong for the BBC who let him go for that reason.  My fear and reason for writing this article is that all too many Muslims believe as he does to an even worse extreme.  He was for a one state solution and accepted the word of G-d as Mohammad had also been impressed once.  Muslims are to have a reverence of some of the Jewish Biblical persons.  However, there are parts of the Koran that are very negative towards Jews, and that part is being used by the Ayatollah to bring down even more than plain hatred upon them.

Ankara, Turkey
The Ottoman Empire was lucky in that they were left with their own country, Turkey  What they lost is what they had taken from others in their empire building.  They did not get to keep Palestine.

Ancient politics in Israel: Rehoboam, Son of Solomon and War

Nadene Goldfoot
Pharaoh at the time of Solomon's son, King Rehoboam, 933 BCE

King Solomon, son of King David, was a king of peace and reigned for 40 years. The main way he kept peace was by marrying the daughters of heads of state of surrounding nations.  It is said he had 1,000 wives and concubines.  He ruled over all the kings from the Euphrates River to the land of the Philistines, up to the border of Egypt. The land was made up of about 9,400 square miles.  Texas, one of the 50 USA states, is made of 268,820 square miles for comparison to what is considered "large."  That's why George Bush said that Israel today could fit onto his ranch.   Solomon  had horses exported to him from Egypt and other lands.   He didn't have to defend his empire as his father had.  As he aged, he expected more out of his people for his grandiose projects.

However,  his son Rehoboam by his wife, Naamah, an Ammonite, (people who worshiped fertility gods, mainly Milkom,  from Transjordan, Semitic, related to Israelites) was met with war early on in his reign. He wasn't able to defend his property.

Solomon (961-920 BCE) took the reins of kingship before King David (1010-970 BCE) , his father had died.

Rehoboam didn't keep Israel united, wound up with the southern half of Israel
Rehoboam (933 -917 BCE) must have done the same thing.   When Solomon died, the kingdom of Israel split apart and Rehoboam became king of the southern half, named Judah since the tribe of Judah lived there.  At the age of 41, he reigned for 17 years in Jerusalem. He was made king in Shechem (today's Nablus under Muslim control).   He had refused to accede to a popular demand for relief from taxation because he listened to his peers that he grew up with instead of his father's advisors.  .  The kingdom had split in two shortly after his acceptance of the kingship because of that refusal. The southern half, Judah, was comprised of about only 3,400 square miles.   Three out of the 12 tribes had remained loyal to him;  Judah, Simeon and most of Benjamin.  They kept Jerusalem as their capital.  The rest of Israel, the northern part, was taken over and ruled by Jeroboam (933-912 BCE).

Joseph
Jeroboam was from the tribe of Ephriam, and Ephraim had been the younger son of Joseph, son of Jacob and Rachel. "Asenath or Asenith or Osnat was an Egyptian woman whom Pharaoh gave to Joseph to be his wife.  She was the Egyptian Priest of On's daughter,  Poti-Phera.  " Pharaoh was so impressed by Joseph's shrewd intelligence that he employs him to re-organize grain supplies for Egypt.   Joseph was so successful that, among other favours, Pharaoh arranges that Joseph marry a high-born Egyptian woman called Asenath.  Her father was the priest of the sun god, Ra, it is thought.

During King Solomon's rule he was a superintendent of forced labor, but later was the leader of their revolt against the burden on the people by the king.  He had to take refuge in Egypt for a while because of his revolutionary movement.  The northern tribes declared their independence when the request for lower taxes and forced labor was refused.    The forced labor was for building projects that Solomon had wanted done, and the higher taxes helped to pay for them.  Since Jeroboam was the leader of the revolution, he became their king.  He may have brought a better life for his people, but they had no reins on them, and they returned to ancient ways of Canaanites since rules were lax.

Solomon's Temple
Too bad King David wasn't around at the time, because in the 5th year of  Rehoboam as king, about in 929 BCE, Egypt's King Shishak AKA Pharoah Sheshonq took advantage of the situation.  Shishak of Egypt marched against Jerusalem, now in the hands of the tribe of Judah. He attacked with 1200 chariots, 60,000 horsemen and countless people who came with him from Egypt; Lubim, Sukkeim and Ethiopians.   He took away the treasures of the Temple and the treasures of the king's palace.  He took everything.  He also took all the golden shields that Solomon had made.  But he didn't take over the land.  That he didn't want, only the riches.  He was nothing but a thief.

Egyptians recorded the Pharoah's attack on the walls of the Temple of Karnak, but he didn't mention Jerusalem among the places he conquered.  Yet the Bible, our Tankkh, recorded the event in I Kings 14:25. Egypt did bother to record Sheshonq's rule and wrote that it was between 945 and 925 BCE.

Egyptian pharaohs were not modest about their accomplishments and always wrote about it.  Sheshonq had built a great colonaded forecourt to the temple of Amun in Karnak and included the famous Bubastite Portal.  On it stands Sheshonq who is supported by Amun and other gods as he smites his enemies in Asia, who are tied up in the depiction below him.  Each prisoner features a name-ring with a toponym, identifying a place that Sheshonq conquered or destroyed.   Jerusalem didn't make the cut.  Evidently he felt he wasn't that proud of his attack on Jerusalem, then.  Evidently he didn't take prisoners, so there was nothing to brag about.  He didn't conquer Jerusalem, but was a thief in the night only.

King Rehoboam had to have copper shields made to take the place of the golden ones. They were given to the captains of the runners who guarded the entrance to the king's palace.  When the king came to the Temple, the runners would carry them and later return them to the chamber of the runners.

Rehoboam couldn't control the people very well and they did things against the laws of Moses.  They were more sinful than their ancestors had been.  They built high places and pillars and Asherah-trees on every lofty hill and under every leafy tree.  This was a slip going along with Canaanite ritual that was pagan, showing they were around and still an influence on the Hebrews.   They were into prostitution, and were doing things that people did of people previously inhabiting the land.

Jeroboam's northern Israelites weren't any better.  The north and the south fought against each other. Five years after he took office as king, , 60 towns in his protection were ravaged by an Egyptian invasion.  He tried to combat the popularity of the Temple in Jerusalem so he committed the gravest of sins.

Bronze bull found, possibly covered with gold leaf originally
He set up new shrines at Bethel and Dan with a similar cult that centered around the symbols of golden calves.  What he had done was revert back to the customs at the time when Moses climbed Mt. Sinai to receive the 10 commandments and the people left on the ground became antsy and started worshipping the Golden Calf they had made.  "The story about the Golden Calf is no longer in its original simple form. It is notable, however, that Aaron proclaimed a 'festival to the Lord' to be held in front of the Golden Calf. This seems to have some connection with the story in I Kings 12:26-30 about Jeroboam making the Golden Calves, for he uses exactly the same phrase that is given to Aaron in Exodus: “Behold your gods, O Israel, who brought you up out of the land of Egypt.”   "Jeroboam became the prime example of someone who “sinned and caused the masses to sin (I Kings 14:16)”[4]. Everyone’s sin was “accredited” to him. As a result he lost his share in the World to Come, the Talmud says."

Rehoboam died and was buried in Jerusalem.    Abijah, his son, reigned in his place. (917-915). His mother was Micaiah, daughter of Uriel of Gilbeah.

Several hundred years later, the Assyrians will attack Israel and capture the best men as slaves for their lands.

G-d had given Moses (1391-1271 BCE) rules to follow that were so advanced for the culture, even though the family had started off with Abraham in the 2nd millennium of about 1948 BCE with monotheism. Put the population in a polytheistic culture and it drew them in.  It was hard to fight against.  Aaron had a moment of weakness and so did the kings after Solomon.

When you have a great leader, be appreciative of it.  They are scarcer than hen's teeth.    Being it is us, the people of the United States who elects a president, or Israelis in Israel who elect their prime minister, be wise about it.  Research each man.  What should a list of skills be to satisfy the job?  What should they know?  Look at the total picture; home and abroad responsibilities.  It just happens to be the highest and hardest position in the country.  Kings David and Solomon were wise beyond their years, and remembered to this day.

I'd Rather See a Sermon

I love poetry.  One of my favorite 20th Century quatrains comes from a stanza of Edgar A. Guest's verse.  It reads:
I'd rather see a sermon
Than hear one any day;
I'd rather one should walk with me
Than merely tell the way.
These famous words of Guest's explain why I chose to include such intimate details from my own life's Self-Action Leadership journey in my new book -- Self-Action Leadership: The Key to Personal, Professional, & Global Freedom.

Me as a teenager: pale, lanky,
 homely, nerdy, and goofy;
 but extremely driven.
Ever since I was a teenager, I have felt a powerfully compelling -- even an obsessive -- need and desire to positively influence other people.  By the time I was in my mid-teens, I knew I wanted to someday write a best-selling self-help book.

Over time, however, I found that I would never successfully accomplish my goal of "talking the talk" until I had actually "walked the walk" over a long period of time.

Unfortunately, or fortunately (depending on how you look at it), the past 20 years of my life has afforded me the painful opportunity of facing three separate sets of deep and penetrating trials the likes of which I, as a boy, never would have imagined I'd face in the future.

Life is often like that -- full of unexpected adversity and other crazy twists and turns such that real life sometimes ends up being even more interesting and dramatic than the most dramatic presentations of the cinema, or the printed page.

I wouldn't wish the crucibles I've been through on anyone.  What I do know is that everyone ends up facing their own, unique challenges in life.  We are all alike in that way.  You can try and run from your problems, but in the end, you can never completely hide.

It is often said that hindsight is 20/20.  In hindsight, I wouldn't trade my struggles for anything because of what they have helped me to become.  Nor would I wish to ever return to the hellish onslaught they brought into my life.  Perhaps you can relate as you've struggled to work through your own issues in life.

Dr. Jordan Jensen's New Book
I wrote Self-Action Leadership in hopes of giving the world a new kind of self-help book -- one that provides as much empathy as it does instruction, and one that seeks to help others by sharing what I've learned from spending the past two decades studying and working on MY OWN problems.

I still have a LONG way to go in my own SAL journey, but I can say with satisfaction that along the way, I have discovered the existence of a few priceless principles that are universal in nature and can lead us human beings out of the mangy morasses we often find ourselves mired in during our mortal sojourn upon this Earth.

Perhaps my experiences -- and the lessons I've learned through studying and working out my personal and professional problems -- might in some way be of service to you or someone you love, care for, or work with.

If you are interested in learning more about what I've both experienced and learned, I invite you to read my new book, which shares all of these things.

The world is full of big talkers.  Heck, I am one of them.  But, if you are looking for a self-help guide that strives to "show the way" rather than merely tell you what to do, be, and where to go, you might find this book a worthwhile read.

BDS Attack From Portland, Oregon on Israel

Nadene Goldfoot
Portland, Oregon, city of my birth, now with 609,456 people as of 2013.  I go to events pertaining to Israel now and I'm usually the only home-grown person there.
Portland's Willamette Week's headlines were:

Portland’s Human Rights Commission Sparks Anger With Vote to Divest of Companies in Israel

Oh, they are so smart, the HRC Human Rights group in City Hall..
Human Rights Commissioners are appointed by the Portland City Council.   The Human Rights Commissioners are volunteers who work without pay.   They had 2 people on their committee who voted for BDS against Israel and chatter is they didn't even know what they were voting for.  Since then they have renounced their votes but are not allowed to do so by the Human Righters.  Once you've voted, you've had it!

Portland is going wild.  This Portland government council dumped all their Walmart bonds.  Not appropriate for them.  Politically incorrect company.
"The idea, championed by City Commissioner Steve Novick, led to Portland City Hall last December expanding its "do not buy" list of corporations in which it refuses to invest its $940 million portfolio. That list currently includes Wal-Mart and fossil-fuel companies such as Chevron and Exxon Mobil.

A step further to controlling Israel came their way.  "Earlier this month, the Portland Human Rights Commission, an independent offshoot of the city's Office of Equity and Human Rights, endorsed a proposal that would ask the city to grow its "do not buy" list—to include companies that activists say play a role in the state of Israel's occupation of Palestine."

As a teacher and  student of history and a publisher of 3 blogs defending Israel and her rights to exist, I am appalled!!  Their history of Israel and their knowledge is worse than a 1st grader.  Israel is a legitimate state and there NEVER WAS A STATE OF PALESTINE!  And these people are making blind votes pertaining to the existence of Israel!  Evidently we have several left wing anti-Israel groups in town today.  "Bob Horenstein of the Jewish Federation   says the true goal of groups such as Occupation-Free Portland", one of them, " is to undermine Israel.  "This has nothing to do with human rights," says Horenstein. "It is yet another attempt by the boycott/divestment/sanction movement to de-legitimize the state of Israel and demonize the supporters of the state of Israel."  So all the Jews assembled yesterday afternoon at 4pm were demons, to them, including a few rabbis.

I was born and raised in Portland, and this is the first time such anti-Semitism has shown itself, to come down on Israel in such a way.

The BDS Movement stands for Boycotting, Divesting and Sanctioning somebody you are tying to control and change.  It's an
unsuccessful effort to isolate Israel and create new Boycotts against the only democratic state in the Middle East.

The first reference I've noticed is to BDS G4S, a British security company that provides equipment and services to Israel's 5 prisons.  Political prisoners are held there.  The BDSers claim they are held without trial and are tortured.  By being the supplier of goods and service, the demonstrators against this company claim they are participating in Israel's use of torture and holding them in prisons.  More than 6,000 Palestinians are held this way to discourage them from resisting Israel's apartheid policies.

None of these claims are true.  This is what happens in Israel:
1. Proper custody and internment resources - improvement in the living conditions with the goal of reaching international standards, through optimal utilization of resources and development of alternatives to imprisonment.
2. Corrections - maximum utilization of the period of imprisonment to efficiently treat the offenders in order to enable them to successfully reintegrate into society.

Security Prisoners
There are some 4,500 security prisoners and detainees incarcerated in the Israel Prison Service, about 50% of whom are considered prisoners “with blood on their hands.” These prisoners include men, women and minors.

Among the security prisoners one finds senior members of Palestinian terrorist organizations, terrorists who were on their way to a suicide mission and were apprehended by the defense forces; dispatchers; attack planners; those responsible for preparing the explosives, etc. As the primary incarceration authority, the Israel Prison Service is responsible for the incarceration of these prisoners, while accommodating their basic needs in accordance with the law.
B'Tselem - The Israeli Information Center for Human Rights in the Occupied Territories, tells a more accurate report than the Portland council.  Their report is on Gaza of which holds Palestinian terrorists who have been shelling Southern Israel for years, through the past 2 Intifada at least since 2001.  Far from being tortured, the criminals; terrorists and all, are paid by the PA for being in prison.
Hamas from Gaza, terrorist
According to the PA  more than 4,500 Palestinian prisoners (as of December 2012) serving time for terror-related offenses are recipients of PA salaries. This means that Palestinians convicted of crimes such as theft do not receive a salary, but Hamas and Fatah terrorist murderers do.

The Israeli Police noted that since 13 April 2008 the police is no longer responsible for any prison facilities(thereafter, the responsibility of the Prisons Service). The police no longer hold Palestinian detainees, other than for interrogation purposes." They are questioned.  That's it.  The police are not like those in Syria or any other Middle East country.

"Updated:
 14 Oct 2015
At the end of August 2015, 5,373 Palestinian security detainees and prisoners were held in Israeli prisons, 341 of them from the Gaza Strip.* An additional 977 Palestinians were held in Israel Prison Service facilities for being in Israel illegally, 13 of them from the Gaza Strip. The IPS considers these Palestinians – both detainees and prisoners – criminal offenders. A few dozen other Palestinians (we do not have precise figures) are held in IDF facilities for short periods of time. The following data were provided by the military and by the IPS."

" In January 2015, the PA Ministry of Finance announced that the PA budget includes ‎transfer of salaries to prisoners in Israeli jails who were from Gaza. [Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, ‎Jan. 6, 2015] This openly contradicts the PA claim that the PA no longer pays salaries ‎to prisoners.‎"  When they are released, the PA pays them anywhere from $10,000 to $50,000.

Students who protested and were for BDS in London were made up of many Arabs, I noticed.  All the women pictured were wearing scarves.  Politics against Israel are showing.

There have been a lot of terrorists trying to kill Jews, and many of these have been a slaughter, horrible murders against Israelis.

Portland invests with the farming company of Caterpillar. That's one company out of 4 they are divesting from.   "The city isn't currently invested in Motorola, Hewlett-Packard or G4S. It is invested in Caterpillar, and does buy products from the companies, including fire equipment from Motorola paid for with money from Portland's $72.4 million fire bond issue, which voters approved in 2010.

"The Human Rights Commission didn't do their homework," says the federation's Horenstein. "The fact that they could consider a controversial issue like this without reaching out to the mainstream Jewish community is mystifying."  Evidently the meeting yesterday went pretty badly.  All the board wanted was reasons WHY they should not invest and they felt they didn't hear them.  It didn't make any difference, since it seems they already had made up their vote before the meeting had started.

The meeting was called for one building, and then changed a couple of hours before they were to start in another building about 8 blocks away.  It's amazing at least about 50 people made it there and wanted to have a chance to speak.

Human Rights?  Where are the rights of Israelis against a mob of uneducated and highly biased people?

" The Jewish Federation of Greater Portland has accused the volunteer group of legitimizing a campaign that could foster anti-Semitism, and Mayor Charlie Hales has said he would block the effort to divest from the four companies."  I certainly hope he succeeds.

Thinking a 2 State Solution is Possible?

Nadene Goldfoot

My reports indicate that Israel, under Netanyahu's direction, has not been building in areas A, B, or C, but that there is nothing stopping the Arabs who are building fervently in the Israeli section of Area C.  .

Ideally under normal conditions with people like Canadians and Americans, a 2 state solution was obvious, but this is a unique situation. It hasn't been a good idea for many years. The goals and thoughts of the Arabs are not the same as that of the Jewish people. We were desperate to have our own land back due to the anti-semitism Jews have had to endure for 2,000 years, and it was getting worse, especially in eastern European countries like Russia. Britain voted on November 2, 1917 under Balfour's leadership for a Jewish Homeland to be created in Palestine.  A Jewish Homeland  was voted on as okayed in 1922 by the League of Nations where all the countries voted on this proposal. The land of Palestine settled on was  Palestine;  made up of today's Jordan, Gaza, and all of Jerusalem besides the western section of Palestine.  The people called Palestinians, actually Arabs living in Palestine,  few in number and did not build anything except their own homes, and of those, some had taken over former Jewish homes of Jews forced out.  There remains Hebrew written above their doors.

1941-Haj Amin al-Husseini, AKA Grand Mufti, went to Germany to ask Hitler to keep Jews out of Palestine.  At the time many were suffering from anti-Semitism in Eastern Europe, especially from Russia.
Again it was okayed by the new United Nations, a time when anti-Semitism was ever worse and Germany was starting their program of expansion and taking over Europe's countries. One Arab minor leader, Haj Amin al-Husseini, called the Grand Mufti-for more political reasons than religious, went to Hitler to get him to keep Jews out of Palestine who were entering slowly due to Britain's rulings. Since then they've accepted Nazi-like standards and hatred for Jews, so it's hard to bring them to the table of peace when the PA under Abbas have joined with Hamas goals in not accepting any form of peace.

No, said Yasser Arafat

No, said Mahmoud Abbas
To have a 2 state solution,  a change in Arab attitude towards the Israelis is needed. Remember, the Arabs have refused their offer of taking the 20% of the land left to the Jews from the time of 1922's League of Nations vote, and expected to have half of the Jews 20% for their Palestinian state. Israel is as big as 1/4 of Oregon.  They have never voiced their desire or need for their own state, as they really have just wanted all of the 20% and drive the Jews into the sea.

Fatah and Hamas need to decide to get along with the Jews first. Now they teach their children in school only hatred for Jews and that the land all is Palestine and belongs to them. They celebrate killers of Jews by naming parks and such after them. There is no expectation of a serious attitude of living peacefully with Israel. It will take a change in their religious outlook today to bring this about. They are as adamant in this as ISIS today to take over land and create a caliphate and to do it by chopping off heads and any other way-looks like even bringing down passenger jets. Golda Meier had said, when the Arabs love their children more than they hate Jews, then we will have a chance. That day hasn't come yet.

In 1948 when Israel was announced as a state, they were attacked by Arabs within 5 minutes.  Jews who had been living in Judea and Samaria  before they were expelled in 1948 by Jordan who took over the land illegally,  these same Jews  wanted to return home in 1967 after Israel won the war of a horrible multi nation attack which included Jordan,

After the 1967  Six-Day War, some Israelis believed that Arab forces might attack again. They built settlements that have turned into cities  on hilltops to act as observation posts for an early warning system.

Israelis were afraid that if strategically important lands were returned, Israelis would be in danger. For years, Syria had been firing from the Golan Heights into the kibbutzim of the valley. If Syria got back the Golan Heights, they would resume firing on the Israelis below. Israelis remembered that after conquering the Sinai, Israel withdrew from the Sinai. If Israel constructed a military base, the soldiers could be ordered to leave, but if they created a “settlement (which since then have turned into cities) on the Syrian heights – a civilian presence, then no one could just order a withdrawal. There’d have to be a debate in the Knesset.

  • There were Israelis who remembered that Israel had conquered the Sinai in 1956, but gave it back. "…the promises made by Eisenhower had proved hollow at the first test and had failed to prevent war… Israelis were willing to return land, but only if Israel got a peace treaty in return. They were hoping that building settlements would make it more difficult for Israel to withdraw from land without getting a peace treaty in return, and these original homes built have turned into cities.  Jews were given full authority to build in area C.  Area A was for Palestinian building.   Area B is under joint control and has large tracts of barren land.

The Arabs are having building going on  in Area C which is the section for Israel.  The structures are being built by a 2nd party  near Ma’aleh Adumim and its E1 area by the European Union for the Palestinians!

"This report is just one of a number the group – a right-wing organization which describes itself as a “research-backed, legal advocacy organization focused on land ownership issues” – has released in recent months.

According to Regavim, European Union support for the Palestinians has in recent years moved from “passive diplomatic and financial assistance to a situation of active cooperation in illegal building which the Palestinian Authority has been advancing unilaterally since 2000, as part of its strategic plan to create a Palestinian state de facto, while avoiding the need for negotiations with Israel.”

What are they creating when the Palestinian Arabs will not make peace with Israel?  Right now Arabs are attacking Jews in Jerusalem, and they are citizens of Israel.  Hamas has shelled southern Israel for years.  Fatah has joined them how many times?  Yes, and the USA will stop ISIS without any troops on the ground.
